View Full Version : fire and water...question...

hey guys,

im tryng to paint a fire and water ball next to each other. i want to be able to see the fire through the water ball.

any tips on how to do this effectively? im going for a dramatic yet realistic look.

i can use water colours, acrylic or poster paint.

any help would be great, this is gonna go on as an exam piece...

I think the greatest challenge you're going to face on this is the way that water displaces and reflects light within it's volume. I can only suggest that you fill a large clear glass with liquid and place objects behind the glass to see how the reflections/refractions react.

Of course if your water ball is going to have any ripples in it, it's going to make it more complex.

I don't know of any tutorials off hand, but you might want to take a look around for other inspirational works that include water. Stahlberg's "The Price of Magic" (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=40650) comes to mind.
