A noob question, I know but...

I am modeling a scene with numerous mesh planes at several levels and slopes. How the heck can I place an object on the surface of the plane without always inserting at elevation zero and moving the object up to the correct level.

Am I missing a snap somewhere (a magnet would be nice)

Max 5.1

Thanks for your help..

Howdy !

If the object you're inserting is a primitive, then there is an "AutoGrid" checkbox that you can use to create an object using another one has "ground" for it (using a grid).
Else there is a tool called "Align" that helps, well, aligning things ! I'd say it's maybe not the easiest tool around.
I'm sure that there are other ways, too.

Thanks mouj!

I'll try them all. The objects are primitives as well as RPC's and 3ds objects. It varies when constructing different scenes.

Most of my 18 hour work days seem to be filled most with alignment rather than creating.

Align seems to work best but doesn't like aligning 50 objects to a variable z-axis grid :D It's sure a lot faster than keying in coordinates for every object - thanks again..
