I would like to buy a new graphikcard
i heard, that the ati radeon8500 can be run with firegl8800 drivers.
what do you think, which board is faster for 3dsmax?
a geforce3 with softquadro or a radeon8500 with the firegl8800 drivers? (or with an other "acceleratorsoftwaretool")

if your worried about the 8500 performance, the latest beta drivers have cleared up a lot of issues. I got the posts translated but it came out a little unclear. Did they say they were having some problems with the card using the firegl drivers? Just so you know, I'm unfamilliar with the firegl card.

ATI is notorious for incredibly lousy driver support, and extremely poor OpenGL implemenation.
With the choice of ATI or GeForce, I would go for the Geforce card hands down.
Also, consider you can get a GeForce 4 Ti4200 below 200.00 making it much better a deal than an 8500

No, he say, that he haven't any problems with the gl drivers.
Now, i found a good article about radeon8500 and geforce3 ti 500

If you look at that first article, the radeon fairs ok and that was with some really out dated drivers way back when the card first appeared (i think). In the second article, the 8500 keeps up with the GF4 in a couple of areas ( i realise that this thread is betweent the GF3's and the 8500), and if you read the very end of the article they seem to be fixed on making the point that the 8500 does a lot of things better than the GF3. In the end its a personl decision but these articles are a good to look at.
