View Full Version : Character Modeling Reel

Hey guys, this is my first demo reel and I finished it about a week ago. Let me know what you think and if there are any changes you'd make that I can keep in mind for my next one. I'm working on a hard surface reel right now, so that'd help out a lot. Sorry for the low quality. I have clearer images in my gallery section though, if you want to check that out.
Thanks guys! : )

Good looking reel. I really like the saltwater croc. Are you going to finish up your car?

The biggest thing id change is adding at least one fully textured character. Ive been seeing alot of modeling reels lately with no textures (other than bump/normal) and they all seem pretty "blah" without it.

Hey man good stuff. I do agree with doing a bit of texturing, it would really sharpen your stuff.

Hey thanks for your comments guys. I appreciate you taking the time to check my reel out. I really want to texture my assets. I think I'll do that before I do anymore work on my hard surface reel, especially because of the overwhelming response to do it.

Dude excelent selection of models. Especially the croc is a killer. I loved the editing too. And as far as modeling is concerned, that's enough. Of course it would look much better with nice shaders/textures, and most important - good lighing, but if you're shooting for a modeling only position - don't bother, just keep them gerat models comin'!

great job on the real, the croc is just amazing to me. A job well done

Glacierise - Thanks a lot. The croc seems to be a few other people's favorite, too. Funny because it's actually my least favorite hah.
aesis412 - Thanks for your comment. I'm glad you like it. I really do feel like I need to finish texturing though. We'll see what happens with that. But either way, I appreciate the responses I'm getting. : )

nice reel. Agree with texturing the models. Right now you have an extremely specialist reel. I'd be careful with texturing though. If you are not much of a texture artist it can kill what you already have. I've seen it happen many times.

GulagCGOner - I'll definitely keep that in mind. I have, however, started to texture and it's looking pretty decent right now. We'll see how the outcome is though. If it looks good in the end I'll post it. Thanks for your input.

Great work Ryan. One of my favorite parts about your reel is the posing you've used, especially for the girl on the swing. The environment around everything also gives the models more character, like you can actually imagine them just getting ready to come to life. When you get into the texturing shoot me an email with the renders. I'd like to see the progress. Good luck!

very good modeling - I really liked the little girl on the swing in particular!

Jared - Thanks a lot, I'll definitely be sending you the progress of the renders; for critiques especially. : )
Intervain - Thanks for your comment. I was pretty happy with that one, too. There are things I'd add or just fix in general, but when isn't there, I guess? heh.

Very nice work. That croc is bad ass. The expression in the posing is great as well.
The texturing thing has been said, but I think blend shapes are just as important. If you add those two things to just one of your characters, youll look mighty tempting to an employer.
Best of luck.
