Title: Starcraft SCV
Name: Oskar Świerad
Country: Poland
Software: Blender, GIMP

Picture for sclegacy.com, based on a concept from SC:Ghost, rendered in Indigo Renderer.
One of my fauvorite Starcraft units. It was meant to be a model only, so there's no environment - ground just helps to show the scale.

Great render! Love the daylight ambience. And the textures are awesome!

If the ground texture is there to show proportions, then the robot must be really big!

Man, that Blender is free software, and you seem to master it, because the image looks great. Do you use Yafray to render? You've walked a long way. Congrats!:)

the rendering engine was Indigo (http://www.indigorenderer.com/joomla/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=15&Itemid=50) - as all other programs I used here, it's free & great

I decided to start learning 3D from the basics on Blender - we have an awesome Blender community in Poland, one of the oldest worldwide, maybe that's the reason.

the problem is I can't force myself to learn 3DS or Maya - two trial periods wasted already  if this software continues to evolve, it wouldn't be necessary though :)

You're right. Thanx for the info! I've given Blender a try with simple poly techniques, and the truth is that it works exactly like other rather expensive packages. The big news for me are that the external free render engines available are good and production-ready.:)

its pretty cool. I think it lacks an environment with substance, and a needs a stronger pose. You'd easily be able to bump it from 3 to 4 stars if it doesn't hit that (if you care).

ah, I see... This SCV is just a still model, so I hadn't focused on proper object centers and relations, etc. I think it would be better to go on with another project, a full scene this time.
