HI,

I am doing some field rendering with rear DOF and I get some strange offset in the fields, 5 or 6 pixel offset.

Quite strange, I tried on a very simple image :

Any help on this ?
thanx a lot

well you could always render at twice the frame rate and interlace the results down in after effects.

that would be the quickest solution if the field render is causing the issues - i think i did a quick test once (may have been in v8) and it worked. i'll look again...

Not sure why you're getting that. My DOF seems to work real well, although i'm in v8.

But, you know, you could pull off some cool stuff with that "messed up" effect.

It comes from the conjonction of the DOF and the field render, Superfly. I am getting quite convinced it is a major BUG of the r8.1...

too bad

how does it look on a teliision, seems right to me being in fields and all. Thing is the TV will show the upper offset then the lower ofset and it should appear slightly blurred.

Hi Pasto,
to create optimal DOF (and other post effects) with fields you have to render full frames and create the fields with a video post software. The simple reason is that the post effects depend on the image information from which one half is missing so the effect can not be calculated in the same way as if the complete information were available.

hmmm so pretty much as i suspected.

this is pretty common in post houses in dealing with any interlaced stuff too - they have to create whole frames to do their post magic and then if needed go back to interlaced later.

so render out at twice the frame rate and do it in AE is the best solution.

Well thank you Dann, Srek and Kaiskai, I guess I will need renderking more and more...
DOF is quite nice assciated with radiosity...

moo hoo ha ha! my evil plan to pay $20 to srek to incorporate that bug is paying off!

look into my eyes! you need renderking! renderKING!!! when i snap my fingers you will remember nothing and srek will be $20 richer! SNAP!

today DOF tommorrow... something else...

just kidding, i've had field problem even 10 years ago in PA with similar stuff - if only we could get rid of them but that is still a few years off...

at least the workaround is a pretty simple one - if not a little more render intensive.
