I just returned from holliday where I had time to think and sketch arround.
one of this brainbabys is samy, yes the samy: the battlebeetle
I´m half ready with the modelling now.
perhaps I´ll also work out a scenery for him ... here we go:

I´m just adding some more details
but it will allways stay abstract in it´s way. my intention was or is to mix up several inputs: insect, machine, cartooncharacter
having a lot of fun with it cause with every step and detail it is on the border between making it more real (f.e. defining the eyes more clearly or leaving the soft cylinder as it is) or keeping it as a association of a insect or robo thing.
my focus is more to give the little boy interesting proportions to transport it´s expression ... u c ?

I just must say that it is interesting.....That's it. If you plan on it being an intergalatic beetle mech thingie then it needs some weird loovers and panels to give it the mech look..
dude the model has no wings on it. in your concepts there were wings.
I wanna see it fly boo hoo.
anyway not bad at all.

nice model...like textures also...like JIII idea about the wings/shell..even if not animated would like to see shell/wings opened up...etc.

one crit the eyes look like they are made out of some kind of womans soap product.
anyway other than that really nice.
love the flame thrower, what did you use for the holes in it? better boole or what?

and I also have one question for it:
I think abbout a beach scenery for little samy. and ask myself how to do the waves and the spray.
I would like to have it in a really 2D style in a sort of japanese woodprint style

if its static could build the wave shape...then matrix extrude the spikey tips off selected polys...but could be a poly killer..
