Title: Casemod "Arthur"
Name: Gert Swolfs
Country: Belgium
Software: 3ds max, VRay

In my spare time I design and build computers, a hobby that is called "casemodding".

"Arthur" is my last computer design, and still has to be build. I tried to design a case without a theme, inspired by my love of architecture. The top of the case opens (like in the image) When it's powered on, and it is closed when not in use. A perfect cube sitting like a piece of art in the corner.

Modelled in 3dsmax and rendered in Vray

I love it. A great elegant design and a nice render :) I hate casemodder who just build the usual stuff (like a window on the side and bunch of completly different color lights....) but mods that are build from nothing into a completly new form are great. That one looks pretty hard to build, could you show other casemods of yours that you already finished?

Edit: The longer i look at it, the more i like it. It's really perfect! The materials, the lighting, everything is just great. Even if it's not an "outstanding" theme like the ones in the award gallery i would you give you the award for it...and if you would post a photo of the build thing later it would be even better :)

Wow man, as an avid gamer, I've been to large lan events like Million Man Lan and QuakeCon her in the US... I've yet to make it to the Gathering though... And going to these events I see many, many, many case mods... Besides the fully functional R2-D2 I saw at a local LAN in Lansing, this would be the most interesting and wonderful casemod I've ever seen.. As said, when/if you build this, PLEASE post it, I would love to see a true finished case mod based on this design.

tnx for the kind words guys.

Im still wondering if I will build this one in real life. I would take me like 6-8nths to make it.
@ rejm : The most known case i made was a few years ago, and is called Hypercube˛

you can read all about it in the following three articles on Bit Tech (I hope i'm allowed to put the urls here)

log part one (http://www.bit-tech.net/modding/2004/12/20/hypercube_part_1/1)
log part two (http://www.bit-tech.net/modding/2005/01/04/hypercube_part_2/1)
log part three (http://www.bit-tech.net/modding/2005/01/10/hypercube_part_3/1)

in the third log you can see the finished casemod.

Beautiful work :)

I wish i could just walk into a computer shop and see casemods like this, now that would be awesome.

This is quite funny...
I remember myself looking at your hypercube mod on BitTech right when your were building it and admiring you for such originality and complexity. And now, here you are with another wonderful idea on CGtalk (the Internet can be quite small sometimes...)

I am positive the casemodding community would very much like you to concretise this idea since the cg image is so appealing...

thx for the links. A very impressive WIP and a really complex build but i somehow don't like the overall design of the hypercube˛.

However this one would be really great. Is it even possible for you to build inner part that's out of plastic? The shape looks very custom, so how would you realize that?

If you would build this one, in my opinion you would even surpass all casemods from benny http://www.plexmod.de/ who in my opinion is the best ocasemodder till now. So please built it, build it, build it :)

ps: i hope i'm not flooding your thread >_<

Actually i have met Benny allready At the Cebit in Hannover a few years ago. He is a very nice guy, with very nice casemods. (What a small world it is)

The inner parts will be totaly casted out of plastic (i will make molds for it, allready gave that a shot and it is very possible) But i'm not saying it will be easy :-)

But everything is possible as long as you really really want it.

...and you really, really have the money fot it, too...i guess...I'm just considering my rather poor student being :D

Well, it's funny indeed that you not only know about him but also met him in person. But again, i just saw that you are from belgium...then it isn't that unlikely that you went to bigger casemod event here in germany :)

It looks vintage, like a tube-powered guitar amp. Materials, shadows and lighting great! In fact, everything looks great!

Beautiful render! I would definitely buy this case. Modding is also a hobby of mine, but I'm a complete novice and only work with wood right now... You're actually going to make this? That's very impressive. What kind of material do you use? And what kind of tools do you use?
