View Full Version : Create Edge/Face...

How can I create a new face in Wings? I'm used to being able to select 3 edges, press a button, and voila, there's a face between them.. Is there a way to do that in Wings?

(I'm assuming the answer is really simple and I was just too dumb to notice it :wip: )

c (as in connect) ??

Here's an example which should make my question more clear (and nope, connect doesn't seem to work)..

I wish to fill the hole marked by the red edges in the attached picture.

you cant connect those , what you can do is choose extrude region instead of extrude so faces stay together during extrusion.

Thanks SheepFactory! :)

Alternatively - if you've inherited a situation like the one shown (and gone past your 32 undos) you can dissolve the innermost edge and use connect at the top.

i think "bridge" will do it

bridge will not work on adjacent faces.

To get bridge to work,I guess you could loop cut one of the extrusions at the base,
bridge the polys you want, and then select the two objects and weld them...
PP's way is faster and easier tho :)

What I don't get by looking at the pic and imagining what these faces closed would appear to look like.... why not jusy simply extrude>region from the git go... ends up the same shape ?

<< To get bridge to work >>

….. you’d have to loopcut all 3 extrusions from the ‘base object’ (sphere), do 2 bridge ops and ensure that the mating faces for the final weld operation are devoid of edges –

Loopcutting (off) one of the extrusions – and then bridging it back to the others – ensures that (the first loopcut extrusion) is no longer a separate object – and thus weld (or bridge) won’t work.

Since duplicate edges appear to be generated during the above procedure, you’ll need to use cleanup at the appropriate time.

Whilst using Extrude Reg is the most logical approach in the first place – it’s also useful – imo - to have as many ideas as possible re regaining control of problem areas that might have been overlooked earlier?

(Doing a trial smooth at any relevant stage during the above procedure will immediately show up problems re geometry integrity in this sort of situation)

I just tried bridge and you are right about the adjecent thing. I just got the program yesterday so i am a total newb with it. Ma bad.
