well i figure it out my self and figured i would post it incase anyone else had this problem. in maya 5 under the move tool options there is a check box unde the snapping tab and you can uncheck retaing spacing between points. so if anyone did not already no that than htere you go.

peace

but anyway: a really nice and useful feature.. they should only have it to the old default.. i think a LOT will run into that problem!

yeah.. just found out, that 5.0 sometimes forgets to snap..
i had the problem with point snap on friday when i first really worked in 5.0..

it did not snap and after a restart it did again.. for some time. :(

One thing Ive noticed is tht you have to re-enable it...
That is you have to click it to enable right...then if it doesnt work click off then back on again.

just found:
snapping does not really work, when you are in any other move mode than "world"
