View Full Version : Character: Young Asian woman
klingspor 05-10-2003, 04:27 PM Hi everybody,
here's my first post in the WIP forum! I'm posting a young lady that I've been working on in my spare time for some weeks now.
I'm quite satisfied with how she's coming along, very true to my original sketches!
Still I feel she's missing something and that's why I'm posting here: I'd really love to hear some comments and crits, especially concerning her outfit, since that's what lacks the most in my opinion! Any suggestions are very welcome!
Anyway, here she is:

Fantastic!!!
Well, i really like your model.
Especially the face, hair and the skirt.
Great modelling!!!
little critics:
IMO the top/shirt has to less shadow intensity...
the boots-material lucks more like rubber and less like leather
some tweaks in the material and the shader
(but is even great so far)
alltogether it is........... WHAT I WANT TO HAVE!!! :D

looks nice..... but here are my crits...... i'll work on the knee cap area, can't really see the shape there...... tummy is looking flat as well, put more definition...... the rest looks ok ... just try to add more details here and there..........
can u show the face close up? cos from what i c now, she's not asian to me..... she looks like someone trying to be asian by dying the hair black and wear asian costume........

Thanks for your replies so far, I'll work on the things you pointed out!
The boots definately need some work, I tried lots of shaders to achieve that leather look but none looked satisfactory - so I'll play around with some settings there.
Also I'll be filling in more details as I have the time and post updates then...
@funnydoodle: actually, she's half Asian... I modeled her from photos of my girlfriend, who is half Japanese.

Sweet model! i bet this will make front page when it hits the finished gal.
The modeling is good, but i really don't like the clothes. Well, actually i love the clothes, but they seem like 2 different outfits. I mean on her lower half its all dark and stuff, but the upper half is all light. I suggest giving her a slightly longer, lighter colored dress, and maybe screwing around with the boots if you want a more innocent look.
Or you could just make the top darker (by the way, i love her top outfit).
You did really awesome textures for all the clothes. Great job. I can't wait till this is finished.

That's great! Only critic from me is that the clothes and stuff is looking maybe a bit too bright. Adjust the brightness here and there!

Thanks for all your comments, guys! Just thought I'd post an update before I go to bed!
I tried to follow many of your suggestions, especially concerning the clothing. As you can see, shadows on her top have been boosted and it's less bright. The boots have been reworked, but I'm still not quite happy with them - maybe I should throw them out altogether and go for some different footwear? I'll have to think about that!
The knees and belly obviously still need work, and I suppose I'll do that tomorrow. The strange thing is, both are nicely detailed in the texture-maps and look fine close-up, but from a distance the procedural shaders seem to take over and leave little of that detail... well, I'll be looking into that tomorrow...

Ah very nice, Like the clothings, especially the skirt..
however some issues:
- the left arm piece seems too big?? looks like it's hanging there
- the feet seems to be twisted in an awk angle... hmmm
- think the stomach and rib need touch up
Hmmz went to you website, seems to give me a feeling of Final Fantasy... am i wrong to say that u are inspired by it??
BTW am i seeing tanline at the hip above the skirt???

Ok, the knees look a lot better now and so does the belly - I'll post an update later on!
Just a quick question: Would a poly-count of around 10000 be considered high for a model like this? Those 10000 include the girl + clothing + props (not the hair, though).
@r2d3: I've noticed something odd about the feet as well, but it's hard to point a finger at exactly what's wrong: from some angles they like look fine and then from the next totally twisted...
The hair is PaintFX btw., took me ages to get it like that ;)
@Darakusan: yeah, Final Fantasy is definitely a great source of inspiration to me, been playing those games since the NES days! Also having lived in Japan exposed me to all that Anime and Manga art they have over there, so that's another influence...

The hair isnt big enough to support the feather things that are in it, it needs to be a little more bushy to have them in. Also the top makes her look a little 'saggy', just IMHO.

I would add some variation to the shirt where the breasts are like wrinkles and maybe make it (the shirt) not so skin-tight.
I don't agree about them looking saggy, the shirt just comes off as being inconsistent in its tightness.
I would like to see a nude and some wires.
