Hi everyone,

Advance Software is pleased to announce the opening of our Christmas themed 3D website design competition.

For further details, please see : http://advance-software.com/discuss

For an independent consideration of our new technology, please see : http://maxforums.org/Thread.aspx?tid=530850

We're running the competition to enable us to start to work with the graphics community to explore what is possible using our technology, and to help us understand where we need to focus future R&D in order to address current limitations.

The submission specification is deliberately vague to enable you to innovate, but basically, make it fun !

The competition will not be judged (for the most part) by graphics gurus, so technical excellence, though appreciated by some (myself included), is not enough. Your target audience is the general public, not the graphics community. The general public does not care how many polys are in a model, they care (for example) if they recognize Santa.

You can make a basic 3D website in a couple of hours. Obviously, the quality will depend on how much work you put into it, but you should be able to build something you're happy with by the deadline. Advance Software will assist as much as possible.

Like all website development, extending your site into three dimensions is going to be an ongoing process. Your submission for this competition can be amended after Christmas to fit whatever theme you want on your site in the New Year, or to fit our next competition requirements (you'll have the basics in place by then).

We'll be running a user interface competition early next year. For the time being, you'll have to make do with our basic template UIs.

Comments, questions welcome.

Best regards,

Steve Williams

Now, having a 3D browser is great, but it's a little lonely out here in 3D cyberspace so we'd like to invite you all to join us by building your own 3D websites.

Whilst we conclude our beta testing, software unlocks are available to members of this forum free of charge.

To kick off our Christmas 3D website competition, we thought we'd start with a speed challenge, so if you have a little time and some interest in experimenting with next-gen interweb technology, here's how to enter :-

The first Infinity format 3D website online that fits the following criteria wins one of the following :-

Option 1 : A VIA PC 2500 motherboard and an S3 Chrome Graphics card.

Option 2: An Egg Photo 360 panoramic photo/video mirror adapter.

(The winner chooses the prize they prefer)

Create a 3D website consisting of two zones connected by a hyperlink. One zone should be the entrance to your 3D website, which should promote you and your work. This zone should feature at least one piece from your portfolio (as embedded HTML pages, 3D models, renders and/or videos). The second zone should be your Christmas list. In this zone, display links or embedded webpages to gifts you'd really like to receive this Christmas. Links should hyperlink directly to that item’s page on a popular retail website. Decorate the site in a Christmas theme - lights, a tree, wrapped presents, garlands, wreaths etc.

In order to build this 3D website, work through the 3D website tutorial here :

... then customize to fit the requirements above.

When you think you're done, upload, then post a thread on our Competitions board

... in the following format :

Merry Christmas - [your name or nickname]

Comments, questions welcome, either here, or on our message board.
