View Full Version : Can't select pelvis/COM in rig

I'm very new to the rigging aspect of Max, and though I've done a few rigs, I'm not really at home with it now.

I'm trying to set up a rig for a biped, but when I apply the physique mod and try to select the pelvis, I can't - but for some reason it will let me select tail-links instead.

Does anyone have an idea what is wrong? (The biped was merged in from an earlier file with a partially completed mesh, so I didn't have to start all over scaling the bones).

My opinion would be to abandon outdated physique, and use skin instead. And if you sometimes have strange problems with biped parts, easiest way to fix it is to create new biped into same scene as old one, then go to figure mode with old model, copy pose then in the new biped's figure mode paste the pose and both skeleton's structure should look the same.

Great tip on importing and copying the pose, I didn't even think of that.

Anyway, I solved my problem in a similar manner - I created an empty scene, then imported biped and mesh into it, and then initialized my Physique mod. Then it worked for some reason.

I've also now re-skinned the model with the Skin mod instead - it's been so long since I worked with CS that I'd forgotten the Skin mod replaced the Physique. No wonder I couldn't find the paint verts function I recalled using some years ago...:banghead:

Thanks for the help.

As an aside - curiuosly, Physique managed to create almost perfect envelopes from the default position, while Skin messed it up by assigning some verts on the hand and wrist to legs and spine. My experience was that Physique for whatever reason Physique created better default envelopes, but tweaking the envelopes caused my mess to fuxx0r up big-time, while skin had less ideal envelopes by default, but tweaking them was much easier.

True, physique does have features which would be nice to have in skin too. Like the way it handles elbows, sort of possible to make invisible collision plane so that neither side (upperarm and forearm) won't collapse, if i remember correcty. But otherwise, IMO it's so outdated that i guess it's better to try to live without those features, than use physique.
