hi, does anyone know if there's a way to control the angularity or smoothness of different parts of the same model?
basically, what im doing is modelling an anime style head (using proxy polygon method), and i want the shape of the head to be nice and smooth, but features, like eye shape, nose, mouth etc to be quite angular and stylized...
any ideas?
thanks

If I'm understanding what you are saying correctly, I would just adjust the normals of the the polygons you want shape and/or smooth.

Edit Polygons/Normals>Harden/Soften Normals.

thanks,
do you do that to the proxy or the smooth mesh?
and would you do it during modelling, or after youve pretty much finished?

That's a good question, I'm not sure.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by a proxy model.

Is that were you have the rough polygon form linked to the smooth mesh?

yeah, i make adjustments ono the low res model, and the changes are reflected in smooth mesh model underneath.
After the model is complete, ill delete the smooth one, and mirror the low res one, join it together and then perform a smooth operation on it...
so i guess i could do what you suggested at that stage...
but im not sure i will be able to get the effect im after.
I want that really stylised "drawn" kind of look for the eyes and mouth etc...
hehe, i guess i should have done 2D animation (-_-;
