I've been using Vray with 3ds Max, I am satisfied with its results but not satisfied with its versions. I mean you have to search for a new compatible version once you upgrade 3ds Max.
In the other hand Mental Ray is already installed with any version of 3ds Max.

What is the difference between Vray and Mental Ray?
I want to know which one of them shall I concentrate in?
Do both of them give the same result?
Why do I feel that most of 3d artists move to Mental Ray?

Why would you have to search for an updated version of V-Ray? Recompiles for newer versions are typically available shortly after each release of 3ds Max from the official Chaos Group site.

There have been plenty of threads on this board already about the differences between all the major 3dsmax renderers, do a search and I'm sure you'll find them. Both are good renderers that have some advantages and some disadvantages, if you feel you need to make a decision between the two, work with both and see which you prefer the most, and don't worry about what "most 3d artist" may or may not be doing.
