koinu 05-10-2003, 01:57 AM HEY MAYEFREAKS,
I just got my hands onthe cpsTool and I can't seem to find any information regarding the helps for it to better understand the tool. If anyone has alink that will be usefull I'd gladly appreciate it. I watched Jeff Unay use it althpough that was months ago and he didn't really give me a heads up on how it is used to perfection. I'm modeling the semi from Nathan Campbell's picture on conceptart.org and thought that the tool would be usefull. Help if you can.... GMASK thisis for you I BET....

PERFECT Thanks a Million...............
I've never used CPS... I'm curious as to what advantages it has over a standard Smooth Proxy in maya?

It's an awesome toolset. I first loadeed it while watching a Gnomon DVD, and Darrin Krumweide was using it. It ads a nice secondary interface of poly tools that are outstanding. A worthy set of additional tools to add to your Maya interface.
hmm, great thnx! I'll dl and check it out tonight! :applause:

well, in fact it is a standard smooth proxy directly connecting two meshes! :)

I used to use CPS quite a bit until maya's smooth proxy came out w/ 4.5. I like the toolbox for CPS, it puts all the poly modeling tools in one convenient place. However, it's annoying to delete history on a CPS mesh, whereas w/ maya's smooth proxy you can just select the mesh and delete the history. I think w/ CPS you'd have to disconnect the CPS delete the history then reconnect. Maybe that's changed since the last time i used it though.
//edit - oh yeah i almost forgot that maya's smooth proxy is faster feedback. On my test mesh i got about 8 fps w/ CPS and 16 fps w/ maya's smooth proxy.

yeah you don't have to disconnect the cps mesh to delete the history, at least on the version I'm using you don't...... I've been such a fan of CPS I just tried smooth proxy.... Help me I'm stupid on this one.... Does smooth proxy have the automatic mirror and stitch like CPS. Cause I looked through the smooth proxy and didn't see any options for it. Without a doubt that has to be one of the best things about CPS, that would be a dissapointment if smooth proxy didn't have that option. :annoyed:

I think it was poly modeling 3. It's been a while, but I'm pretty sure it was.

Nothing automatic as far as i could tell. But you can use the built in mirror geometry option (with mixed results) or just duplicate and merge them by hand. I generally use smooth proxy on half a cube then scale the smooth mesh -1 in x (or whatever axis i need to mirror it) I like seeing half the mesh low poly and half smooth. With CPS I could make the low poly shaded but the smooth version would always peak through the mesh. Of course I might just have not taken a good look at the CPS options.
With CPS you can just move the cage off to the side so it doesn't interfere with the smoothed result at all.
Awesome Tool!!! :buttrock:

Now that I've gotten familiar with this tool, I have a question.. There is this Update window on my screen, it won't let me see my "extrudes" until I hit it. How can I get this outahere????
Other than that the tool is AWESOME.....

yeah you got your dependency graph set to demand. Look in your CPS tools under display and you'll see a button to toggle between drag, demand and release. You probably want it set to drag.
