Alright..
I'm doing a scene with a fairly large wall - and a concrete base..
I've added some dirt/grime, water marks, etc. to the base..but I'm really trying to "break up" the texture with cracks, blotches, whatever in certain areas.
- A rough example in this (http://www.3dtotal.com/team/Tutorials/jjstemple/jjpalamo1_1.asp) tutorial kinda shows what I'm trying to do.

I guess in the tutorial above, the artist is editing the base texture itself..
Err, what I'm wanting to do in my scene, is somehow export the material in it's final position - applied to the object - into photoshop to add detail around specific areas.
Bleh..this is hard for me to explain.

I have this bottom section of a wall -

The "holes" you see in the concrete are areas where brick shows underneath...
I just want to save the material from that perspective, bring it into PS - and paint some dirt/scratches/cracks around the "holes"... and then reapply it to the wall.
Is that possible?
Err, I've been going through the help reference looking for this kinda stuff..and I think "texture baking" is what I want - but I'm not sure.

I appreciate the help. :)

Yeah texture baking is one way to go, but I am not sure how you do that in Max.
What I would just do is screengrab that though, and paint on it in Photoshop

Yeah..I'd paint the cracks/marks where needed after rendering, but the walls are at an angle to the camera .. a fairly sharp one at that, and I think it'd be very difficult.
I'll try and find some tuts on texture baking and see what I can do with that.

And thanks for the reply Leigh. =)

Go to www.maxplugins.de and get a plugin called texporter. it lets you map an object in max using whatever co-ordinates and then render out a bitmap of the objects mesh to use as a painting guide so you know where to place your texture. Theres a guide to it here (http://www.secondreality.ch/tutorials/materials/wornmetal/wornmetal.html). Thanks to arild wiro for that one...
