lambo75 03-31-2008, 08:17 PM I'm looking at Blender as a possible tool for doing low poly realtime modelling but I'm struggling for speed.
In MultiGen Creator (which I'm currently using) to build a set of buildings very quickly I'd align a trackplane to a building plan then I can quickly build many footprints by clicking the 2 opposite corners of a rectangle. These can then be extruded up in one go. The only way I can find to achieve this with Blender is to build a plane then rotate and manipulate it into place which is time consuming. Is there a better way of simply building a rectangular polygon?
Sorry for asking such a basic question but I've been scouring loads of tutorials without finding an answer. Many thanks.

I am not familiar with MultiGen Creator so I am not sure what your objective is.
A "rectangular polygon" in Blender can be created pretty quickly by hitting the spacebar and choosing to add a plane.

Thanks for your reply.
The problem with adding a plane in that way is that it is always the same default plane that then needs further manipulation to get it into place, unless there is any other way you know of building it in the correct orientation?

If you are in edit mode, you can extrude faces, vertices or edges by using the extrude command. (E-key) You can use constrain keys to keep them parallel to an axis. (X-Y-Z key)

what version of blender ar you using? I you are using the latest official blender version (2.45) or earlier the plane you create should be oriented to your view and placed at the 3d cursor. If you are using a later version it will be created at a default orientation, but this can be turned off in the options menu.

Like Nebopolis said, you can place the 3D cursor exactly where you want the Plane to Appear. And then you can reorient the viewport until it is exactly "looking over" where you want it. And finally add with the use of the Spacebar ADD menu.
If you are just "Plugging a hole"...or you have a set of vertices you want to instantly turn into a plane/polygon, just select the 4 vertices and press F-key.
