bugzilla 05-09-2003, 11:14 PM I've been hearing rumors that there are ways to smooth Animation Master models where they have creases. Does anyone know a way to get rid of creases in models without having to delete the offending splines and redoing everything?

What version are you using? 10.5 has introduced several new methods, tho below that i think everything just has quality modeling and apply a porcelian material (its on your cd)

I have found excellence in modelling the single best answer to this.
Really knowing where your splines *end* and *pass through* is the first critical element.
Knowing how *parallel* (not just perpendicular) splines are affecting each other- for example when one ends and another continues on in a curve, at that point, you'll typically get what I call a "bulge crease."
Of course watch perpendicular splines too, and try not to have more than two coming or passing through a node, but that's beginner stuff, really, and very simple to avoid with forethought.
Have faith in texturing. *If* you've done your *utmost* to minimize creases in the modeling process, have some faith that when you're finished texturing (WITHOUT resorting to porcelein) about 75% of what you saw will simply not be there anymore (except character faces, of course; in that case most creases get *worse*

Be careful about "conserving" splineage by using hooks. In a few cases hooks make things worse, and you're not really saving much performance by minimizing splines, you're really just showing off jedi-knight splinemanship- sure it's fun and I do it a lot, but splines are *tools* not the enemy. At times taking a spline out solves a problem, but as often adding or keeping one and working with it can be as helpful.
5 point patches on flat surfaces, if you can manage it.
