View Full Version : Vehicle: Semi-Futuristic Concept Car
handige_harrie 05-09-2003, 10:31 PM Worked on this for too long now. Rendered for too long also :D.
Own design, although Daniel has inspired me with his beautiful Lotus Ecos concept.
Done with C4D R8
No postwork except the undertitle (PS6).

More Renders & Wires (http://members.home.nl/hcgl.hermans/conceptcar.htm)
Made using boxmodeling (double Hypernurbs, wires are single Hypernurbs)
HDRI renders
4-9 hours per image.
Don't pay any attention to the ugly triangulated parts like the taillights. Better Bool fixes this, I just didn't use it yet.
Unfortunately brakes are hardly visible, just check the wires.
Same for the diffuser and bottom.
No doorhandle, just a tiny hole like the Ferrari Enzo
No windscreen wiper, like a concept from Renault or Peugeot wich has some sort of vibrating device to keep the windscreen dry. A wiper just didn't look pretty :p.
I hope you like it, and please give me some comment so I can improve my next car(s).

I like your images, and especially the little things like the headlight and taillight design.
However, I think it could use something else to make it that more believable. The windshield wiper, you say would make it uglier, but I think it is the way you treat real-world things like that that really makes a design look complete. Right now, it seems somewhat embryonic, too smooth and too clean. Perhaps more seams (for the hood, trunk, windows, etc.) are necessary. Maybe you can break up the perfect smoothness a bit with a vent or "power bump"?
Other than that, good work!

whoa thats so smooth it almost hurts dude.
can you just like break it up a bit make it more mechanical please? cause man thats a funky looking, but promising car.

When I see the car in white, it really reminds me of the Ford GT90 concept. Except yours is a whole lot prettier. Good job.
Isn,t bad, good concept and modeling, but the texturing it,s a bit stranger, not realistic, try to change it in glass and body.
Good job.

For some reason that fist pic of the front of it is so smooth and perfect that its giving me a headgasm, I love it.

interesting idea, however these are few things that caught my eye.
first off, way too many lights in the front (fukin' 10 in total!) and the in the back, seems like there is a lack of lights (weird)
second, the car seems to lack detail... I know "futuristic" things tend to be smoothed over, and hellsuh sleek, but its almost an excuse to not add detail... accent the space between the metal plates, your car looks like it was manufactured in one piece (cars are assembled :surprised)
third, maybe just add a grill on the front intake (under the massive amounts of lights)... ya know, add some accessories, style it up; plus the sideview mirrors seem "stuck" on :hmm:
Just my 2 cents...
Cheers,

love the lights....they rocks.....other than that I think the shaders/materials are letting bodywork down.

I like it! Could use lights like that up here, it's dark for half the year! Though that half ou wouldn't be driving a car like that anyway... I can see some seams, see if you can make them darker, and how the heck do you get to the engine??? The mirrors don't look like they go to this car. Maby rear view cameras at the fromt corners of the side windows? Maby some air scoops on the rear deck for the engine and to break up the too smooth surface a little. Just brain storming here, I couldn't get near that good myself, software costs way too much for me. I really do like it though.

Thanks for the comment everyone.
Yeah there are eight headlights (the outer two are flashers) but they are smaller than usual.
Same for the taillights that contains a total of 46 small lights. If you want an example of this, I though it was the Nissan 350Z.
Yes it is smooth (the whole point of this car) definitely NO vents or mechanical parts are to be added :shame: although I agree that the seams are to thin (it has doors, doorwindows, boot, and a fueltank lid).
It also has a nice airintake, but again it's barely visible.
Regarding lack of detail, the body itself doesn't show much (intentional) but the rest has a lot of detail (brakes/rims/tyres/headlights/tailights/brandlogo) unfortunately the low radiosity bounces whipes out most of them.
I don't agree on the shaders, I tried out all sorts of shaders and lighting setups. This was the slickest result and I like it :p.

Well, I can see by the wireframes that you have a lot of detail put into this thing. It's just a shame you can't see it. I'd say the texture is the thing lacking detail. Other than that, the thing looks great in black ( ), and good work nonetheless.

Smooth lighting indeed, I can't see no artifacts (especially on the ground). When you see HDRI renders with white floors you always see spots and other artifacts, very clean result  .
Some remarks on the car and it's material is that the window and the body have the same amount of reflectivity, thus it generates the impression of everything being metal and not partially glass.
The design is something subjective so I won't comment you on that, but I do like to say I definatly like that Trans-Am type 'o rear end! A (subtle) spoiler would definatly finish it!
Keep up the great work! :buttrock:
dude i love the softness and lighting ;)

looks good enough to me. :) what about giving some hard edges on the car?
I guess it would be a better IMO.
