hello! vray is a plugin that allows you to produce much higher quality renders than default scanline with max.
as for 'editing' materials its a no. if you want to edit materials (imported maps/textures) use external app like photoshop.
google vray and see what you get ;)

Actually, V-Ray is a renderer, being developed by a Bulgarian company called "Chaosgroup".
