hey guys i am real new to the world 3d (work as a graphic artisit) and i am needing some help creating an ice sculpture. i'm using Max and looking to get something like this:http://www.versatilemotion.com/3d/ice1.jpg
ANY help you could give me would be great (tutorials, shaders, step by step instructions)....remember i am a newbie :)

Ice is just like glass, its all about reflections and refractions. It looks like the image you are using as an example has a few illumination sources from overhead and from behind the cubes. Since ice is clear, its color really comes from the stuff around it. If you want a vivid blue like in the picture, use a few color boxes (set to 100% self-illumination) set around the scene (but out of camera range) for the ice to reflect/refract. Another thing you'll need to look into is self-reflection and refration. I dont have much experience with this personally, but if you use a good 3rd part renderer like Brazil, you can get great results.
