I agree with mattregnier. You should try painting from scratch, but there is nothing wrong with using photos like these for reference.

At the same time if you really want to start from a photo,
(which there is nothing wrong with doing) you need better quality images, not low res pics from the web.

As far as these particular concepts the idea is good but you need to work them a little more to make it believable. Right now it looks like body paint not metal.
Thats the downfall of using a photo to paint on. You also need to paint photorealistcly (no room for painterly stylization).

Anyways keep it up I hope to see more work from you.
