Hi,

I'm currently trying to create a 3d spiral that draws in over a period of 10 seconds, the spiral is sort of tornado shaped. I am using after effects cs3 and have the trapcode 3d stroke plug in. The problem I am having is that I cannot draw a path in 3d space. So I was wondering how could i create the tornado shape? Is it possible to import a path in from maya and apply it to the 3d stroke effect?

Thanks.

you made me curious and i tried something.

i rotated a shape on a circle, attached it to a null that scales it bigger over time and attached this null to another that moves upwards. precomping and echo finally did it.

check it out.

good luck,

Heya mate,

Nice technique! I have been playing around with your idea a that made me curious :) A really nice solution. Before I read your post I found another technique if you're interested.

I used some of the techniques from this video tutorial in making light streaks and had it draw out the rough spiral shape.

Thanks for your help dude :)
