Hi all,

I'm kinda new to 3d so I hope I'm right place for this question.

I'm making a short movie with a guy interacting with a ball which illuminates and I wanted to let the light shining from the ball fall onto the hand. Now just like the use background shader I thought there should be a shader which just renders the light but not the geometry so I can model his hand and position in correctly in Maya.

If someone knows a more efficient way of approaching this to get the same effect or knows a forum where this question is better asked plz let me know.

I added a screenshot, I know it's small but thats because I shot the vid in pal widescreen 16:9.

Thanks

You probably want to connect a surface luminance into the transparency of a lambert shader. Due the to way Maya handles tranparency, you will probably need a reverse node in between.

This will then only render areas which are lit.
