I thought I would have a go at creating my own promotional Porsche, it's not finished yet, just a bit more detailing and texturing to go. I will not be able to work on it for a week though, so I thought I would post this test render and get some feedback before I do the finishing touches.

i dont have a great knowledge about cars, but i find it great :)
nice job ! the car's interior seems to be nicely detailed.
one comment maybe : the car's blue material has a little cartoonish touch IMO. if u plan to give the car a realistic style, maybe u could tweak the material a little.
u can get some good advices here about that (thirdeye made a kick ass car, he could give u good tips i think)

Thanks, I would like to get it looking more realistic, I have just guessed at the paint shader and glass, I have merged several renders together rendered in different styles, thats what gives it a cartoonish appearence. I tried a blurred HDR image in the environment channel but I find this gives me undisireable results when illuminated at the moment, will keep trying when I get time, back to the day job!

Welcome to the car club -- I'm working on a car project as well. Excellent job on the details. I especially like the tires and the inside of the car (easy things to try and "cheat" on).
About the render, seeing that you tried the blurred HDR map in the environment channel, I assume you have seen the post here: http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=48921&perpage=15&highlight=Murciélago&pagenumber=4
What approach did you take in modeling the tires?
Great job! Keep us updated on your progres.

Wow, so many nice cars these days! :bounce: :bounce:
If the material for the glass be little more clear and tansparent, the car will be perfect!

John, the tires were just created using a cylinder and extruding the tread profiles out and then twist them around the circumferance a little bit using certain point selections, I just created half the tyre and used symmetry to make the other half and then the symmetry again for the tyre on the other side.

Good work! The model looks very good, but I agree with the other comments that the lighting and materials need tweaking.

Thanks Adam, I have spent the best part of 3 weeks modelling the car and the entire interior, I have only spent about half an hour on lighting and its scene, so I hope to get the best out of it with some subtle lighting, I might try the car in silver.

other then the already commented on materials, this is amazing!!
That is great work on the car. Nice idea with the tires.
Is it because of the lighting you use that in the front near the headlights the body look warped?
:applause:

Thanks Dennis, the thing that looks like a dent on the front is caused by the enironment map and refections in the paint shader, I need to change the HDR file I used and mke the whole thing more subtle, I find the whole blue theme a bit overpowering now, I need to calm it down.

Yeah, been there done that. :) How about posting a wireframe, and maybe a render with default materials?

I think it looks great. Have you thought about putting the porsche symbol on the front and the type on the back. That will add a little more reality. but all in all great model:buttrock:

awesome...dunno why but cars in c4d definitely flavour of the month...and you gotta be in there with mr thirdeye..
man you gotta get points for modelling that interior...so often people don't bother and then hide the fact with the window...full credit to ya bud...i'm not surprised it took you 3 weeks either...excellent work...lovely slick mesh...
have you got any reference material we can look at to compare...cos to me...and this is a little nit picky..back seam of door seems to dip inwards on render and not on mesh (i can see the poly line dips...but seems deeper on bit between door and wheel arch...and same goes for front bonnet part...as if someone pressed on bonnet with thumb slightly....i guess this is how the real car is...but don't know cos never seen one...hope this helps...and in no way am i knocking it...cos it kicks some serious butt....when you worked 3 weeks on the textures...porsche should bow down and kiss yo butt....heh heh.

I think this is a Phong artifact. If you select the door edges and use the new break Phong feature that should go away.

Slight update more subtle environment,
still no finishing touches like the logos, I have still got to texture the interior too, oh and the door needs a little pannel beating!

Extraordinary. I can't believe you modelled the interior so well.
I think the environment map could use some more contrast. The lowlit areas should almost be completely black. (I think) for best results in a render like this.
Very very very good job though.
How come no one ever animates their cars??????????????????????
WHY!?

Each 800x600 render of the Lambo took 1 hour more or less.
hmm maybe if we kidnap dann stubbs and force him to give us free access.
that or you could just ask nicely.

See that! If you let it render for a whole day you could easily have... umm... less than a second of animation....
Well...
Maybe it's time to get a computer with no purpose other than to render... all... day.... long....!

I think I am getting the hang of this now.
Better Scene, three point lighting with HDR reflection no environment, render time just eight minutes.

The car is beautifully modeled.
I really like the three-point-light renders, considering the rendering time. One thing though: the specular from the lights doesn't really fit in with the reflection. The reflection could use some more light/dark contrast I think, but that's rather personal.
Care to share the lighting setup? I never managed to get such nice results with three point lighting for my car.

New paint and textures on the lights.
handige_harrie the lighting was simply one distant light set at 80% (with the Z axis pointing at the car) and two omni lights set at 30% to infill all with soft shadows set at 1250 x 1250 at 100% strength.

Outstanding Peter! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
The *only* thing I see in terms of modeling is a little roughness under the door handle. Probably not worth bothering.
As far as the material, I think the reflection may be a little too soft, and the spec highlights could be tightened up a bit?
Fantastic work!

Thanks Adam, the mesh around the door handle is probably the only unresolved part of the main bodywork if I repair it though it causes problems at the bottom of the door , a job for photoshop I think. I am waiting for some HDR images to be delivered when I get them I will try putting the car in a scene with better reflections. I will try adjusting the specular as well, it getting very hard to be objective about it now.

only crit is that the interior is looking a bit weird. almost like it has been renderered with a toon shader while everything else is photoreal.
maybe there is an issue with the lighting. like maybe it needs to have lights on the interior.
anyway just my thoughts.
looks totally sweet.

looks pretty sweet man, but where did you get that Carrera font?
hmm looks to me like he got it two places.

2 its cloned from a photo
