hi everyone
here's my first 3d short

http://perso.wanadoo.fr/metang/nic-zalumet02.avi
32Mo, DivX 5.0.3

i made it mostly last year, had a big stand by and finished it about 3 weeks ago
It won a small student short film contest here on Reunion Island!
I know the animation contains a lot of visual bugs but had to finish it and i still don't have a render farm at home, so...
let me know what you think about it!!!
thx

:) yipi
i just wanted to add some stills because the size of the file may annoy some users

It was starting to look pretty good, but then kaboom. :annoyed: Please re-encode the file.

There was a lot of artifacting, it looks to me like the samples on a number of the effects used needed to be turned up or you should have used more AA.

uups...you know what? im stupid! i confused the movies in my previous comment... it was for unlikelyhero's darened...sorry hehe
:hmm: okay this was really dumb.

okay but now to your movie:

very, very good rendering!:applause:
i agree that it could be a little faster animated...and a little different cutted. i think that there's a little to much length in the beginning to prepare the story, and a little too less in the end.

good job! :buttrock:

thanks for your comments
i can't say precisely how much time it took me because i was working on it here and there when i had time, but roughly 3 months and a half with rendering taking much much of the time!
thanx again!

Nice rendering, man.

Though i would say that the match heads are a bit flat looking and the ending was less than I expected . . . I wanted to see that match burn :annoyed:

. . .but overall very nice work man.

Hey man, solid modelling & texture work! Nice renders, I dig the look of it.

Now, for my main crit: timing! I think many parts of are too slooooowww.... and the animation is not snappy enough. For instance, when our protagonist match is on his way out of the box, hears the music, wonders what happens, and then begins his journey - that's too slow.

Think "how would pixar have done it?". Imagine if Woody or Buzz from Toy Story were actors, and you had one of them PLAY the match... how would they have done it?

I think it needs to be more TIGHT, more snappy... also, when the match jumps along, it looks like slow-motion... y'know, it goes "booooiing..... booooiing..... booooiing..... ", but if Pixar had done it, it would've been "boing-boing-boing-boing-boing" ;)

Still, very good work!

Cheers,
- Jonas

thanks you all for your comments!!
jussing: i agree with you, i noticed in the editing process that the animation was quite slow compared to the music. but it's my first one and i'll do better next time!
thanx
