View Full Version : landscape making
photostar73 03-26-2008, 10:58 PM Hi everyone,
I'm a photomanipulator, and I'm working on some fantasy projects involving girls and dragons.
I'm in need of creating some landscapes for my images, and I wonder wich one could be the best program for creating them?
I'm now studying Terragen, but I'm not sure that is enough for achieve a photorealistic result once the scenerys are melted with elements from real photos.
I'm anyway experienced with photoshop, but I have no practice on any 3d program.
I thank in advance anyone will give me suggestions!

hi ! well terragen is pretty cool for photorealism but so is Vue 6 maybe you want to give it a try, the interface is simple and I think it will be easy to understand and fast to learn, and for 3D , there are some programs that can do cool stuff with camera projection matte paintings , I use 3ds max and I find it perfexct, some other artist use Cinema4D , or Sofimage

I've never had great luck with Terragen, I've had good stuff but it needed a bit more post work than other programs. I like Maya as far as buildings, architecture, the wrist movements are easier for me. Vue, I've never used, but have seen good results. I've had good experience with Max in the past and I think a a lot of people use that. I try to keep more landscape/land formations to photos/paint with textures. Good luck!

I thank you all very much!
I'm now thinking overall about Vue 6, that seems to me simplier than Maya or Max.
I'm only trying to understand if is better for me to get the pro studio or the infinite version...
Your help has been very helpful!

Also to add to the above, Vue has excellent intergration with the other 3d programs mentioned, i've used it with Max and the results are very nice. You can literally click a button and the whole vue scene gets imported into max where you can addall your main elements etc. Vue is pretty much the best there is for what it does, when compared to Terragen and bryce.
