Hey everyone, I did my first matte painting back around November/December, but didn't get around to posting it here till now. I'd be curious to see what you think of it.

A still is available at:

The animated clip (w/ breakdown) is here:

I'd like to animate a dragon or something similar hopping off the foreground rock and flying off into the sky some time, but I probably won't have time, and I'm not really a character animator. If anyone else wants a crack at it though, let me know!

very nice work for your first matte painting and camera projection ! cool indeed
some comments about this image and animation would be
the foreground rocks look too flat in the dolly in animation, and the kind of rock does not match each other, if you see the right FG rocks are more of horizontal lines and the left FG rock is totally different, it is all vertical lines so I would suggest you try to match those 2 rocks,
the far smoke from the volcano is too fast, at that distance and depth the movement would be almost none,
the clouds look great ! keep up the good work !

Thanks, glad you like it! Maybe after I graduate in a month or so I'll replace the foreground with real 3d rocks. Could be a fun challenge to get the 3d rocks to match the style and color palette of the rest of the image, and it would definitely make adding a character a lot easier if that actually happens. We shall see.
