Hi All:

I am just now learning to use Bodypaint 3D in conjunction with MAYA. So far I really like it, but here's three quick questions:

1. How do I get better rotational control in a perspective view? It rotates with the alt key, like in MAYA but does the exact opposite with a lot less control. Is there a way to get it to function better?

2. Is there a way to isolate the painting by polygonal faces? I was projection painting, but really wanted to just select certain faces. The marque tool was ok, but is there a way to get actual groups of faces?

3. When projection painting from a predetermined tilable file, I get some paint down, click the green arrow to keep that strok and then move the model to paint new strokes, but the projection changes and I get seam problems. How can I avoid this? How can I get the seams to match up? Is there a way to paint a surface with more control? (ok there were three question in this one... but it's all related.)

Thanks in advance. I'd appreciate any and all input.

The first one is easy,
you can change the rotation in Menu>Edit>Preferences ->Common>reverse orbit

The second is a bit more advanced.
Activate the "Use UV Polygon Edit Tool" There should be an icon left with the other UV tools
for Polygons, Points selecting and manipulating UVs. Change to one of the selection tools and
select your polygons. Then right click on the mesh. The first option should be "Select Geometry" Open the fly out and click and drag the dotted top line to make that fly out a
temporary palette. From here you can choose something like "Hide unselected Polygons".
Now paint in 3D on the visible polys. To get the hidden polys back you need to be in Polygon or UV Polygon mode like before and choose "unhide all" from the same flyout / palette.
In 2D texture mode you can choose menu>select>generate mask from seletion
to get a texture selection.

Finally I don't think brush tool isn't intelligent enough to tile correctly on non planar surfaces
or if the projection is interrupted which occurs when moving or roating camera or object.
The only way arround this is having a continuus UV and paint this in 2D.

Thanks Sneaker.

I appreciate it. It worked well.

Now I am weirded out by the layers. I create new layers and am painting along. I select in a different panel and the layers dissapear. They go back to the PPlayer only. Why is this happening? How can I make it stop.

Soon my newbie-ness will pass.
