I dont think i have read the books..tho i might have cuase I read ALOT of sci-fi...
but i think ill stick to the alien interaction topic more than trying to sticking to the book ...

just playing around with some char ideas...my main concept is how are we going to interact with any new friends....of course the only was we do in life now...with the army at full force!!

next ill put up some more concept sketches of the general idea of what im doing...

so here is some of my real idea...

humans invading an aliens home world...
basically they kill what they want...take what they want...throw their pets off cliffs...just like the army in real life!!

but...they will be in for a surprise...

just playing around until there is a sunny day on my day off and i can go out and take some ref photos...nothing but rain when im not working of late...

this is the basic concept for the image tho i will remake it all and make a better and more dynamic composition when i get round to making the proper thing...im thinking more of an overhead shot like its taken from someone standing a little higher then them..

well Golden week holidays have started so its time to grab some beers and start painting...

got 8 or 9 days off work so ill be spending most of my time on this comp..

just playing around with some basic ideas today

i want to lay out the basic elements of the picture today like the landscape and block in any other army stuff that will be in the picture like tanks and stuff...

in the far back ground ive had the idea that there is a big fight going on humand against one of the big aliens...will have to see how it goes...

dont know if i want to put more people in the image yet...will have a play aroung either tonight or tomorrow..

anyway im kinda happy with the way its heading for now...was a good afternoons work...

Hey dude, I kind of liked the cliff. Then again, that massive truck thing is pretty awesome. I bet they had one of those in that convoy on the planet where the dude stared at the moon every waking moment of his life. (You know the one.)

i played with some backgrounds again...i like this one...dry dusty planet....maybe its even earth...time to start on some detail i think

did alot of work on the truck..
also slapped down a quick sand/rock texture on the ground...

im liking the truck...
next finsih up the background and then hit the people and alien..

nice job with the ur image , look i have an idea may be u will like it , i think if i were u i would add dust coming of the ground to help integrating the characters into the seen and giving an atmosphere , but it's just an idea , so good luck with ur image ;)

im spending the night fully remaking the guys...
ill change their colors around a bit later so they are not so much the same..

but for now i think they are coming along pretty well..

tomorrow is the last day of golden week so i want to get as much done as i can tonight and tomorrow before i have to get back to work..

it took me a while but now the guys are pretty much done...phew..

i really like the guy on the left...kinda like a little crazy...

next i have to do the alien...that prob going to be the hardest part of the picture...

then after that its just some more work on the back ground then almost there...yay!!

With this image again I wanted to get away from the norn
this is really how i feel we would react to aliens in teh future if we ever met them...just read the news every day and you will see why...we cant even interact with ourselves...

Hi Simon,

I believe you captured a touch of reality in that entry. People tend to do that - to their fellow man so why not aliens? Cool consept and more up front (more real?) then most. I like how illustrative meets realism in the style. Very fine, very good! Good luck!
