View Full Version : Rigging a caterpillar
carlsden 03-26-2008, 01:34 AM Hi guys,
I've modeled a caterpillar in xsi but rigging it has been a nightmare!
is there anyone who could suggest the best way to rig it?
i want the caterpillar to move in a realistic way so i want each section of the caterpillars body to follow after the one in front....
its proved very tough so far.
any help is appreciated..
thanks

Hi, you may introduce programmation in your caterpillar rig. Each movements of the legs would be driven in a loop, with a little lag. But you may have some programmation skills.
Take a look at the Digital Tutor's trainning dvd (http://www.digitaltutors.com/store/product.php?productid=3457&cat=32&page=1). It's talk about multiped rig and automated animtion ! I know you have to pay for it, but Digital Tutors's stuffs worth a buy.

This tutorial uses many of the same tools needed to make it work.
http://www.3dmastermind.com/
go to the 'free demos' section
view the "tank treads" tutorial.
I would start by studying live video to fully understand the caterpillars movements.
