Im looking into buying a new desktop as my 1600+ just inst cutting it anymore...and im curious...is there a reputable custom 3d workstation manufactuer? or would you stick with a brandname? im only interested in a pc, no macs, and i dont want to get into the religious war that usually ensues. Any help is appreciated.

Boxx (boxxtech.com), Alienware. Or build your own.

build your own, boxx and alienware are too expensive for private usage, don't think you will need good support.....

I am personally a big fan of the build your own crowd.

You get the machine you want, and a lot chepaer than paying for a box.

Down side is you don't get support, but that has never been much of an issue as I have never needed support.

Parts do have their own individual warranties so its not like there is much of a problem to it.

I think I have only 2 or 3 times had to return something defective out of literally hundreds of builds.

"Parts do have their own individual warranties so its not like there is much of a problem to it."

The problem being that you can be taken out for long periods of time while you wait for parts to RMA and re-ship.

Boxx and Alienware are great. Building your own is also great, but it raises a ton of issues that you may (or may not) want to avoid.

Many places will cross ship with a Credit card for guarantee.

Crucial shipped my item and I had it next day.

Considering the fairly low possibility of this happening, it is well worth the risk.

always build your own if it's 4 personal use
you will get....

more 4 less.

If it's 4 a company try BOXX, they are very good

I wonder what kind of experience other people have with Boxx. Personally I have some reservations after our last purchase, although I still think they are better than most mainstream companies.

BoXX is exceptional if you have to buy.

Best of the best.

well...i am going to take my A+ certification...as i want to get into pc repair, so i think i will wait until then, people say its not hard, but i would like to know what im doing. Boxx looked nice, but its not what i want...i guess im just picky. So i will build my own. My current PC is a custom build and i have never had problems with it. So i am comfortable in making my own once i learn what to do. And i whole heartedly agree, alienware is too expensive, once for shits and giggles i customized the best of the best $24,000

so...in a word...no. Besides their options arent the best either.

We got some last summer for our lab. one had a fire incident the first time we started it up.

And they seem to slow down for no good reason sometimes.

A video card went bad in one as well
