All this was done in photoshop, i had to make the image really small because of the file size restriction.
The relationship here is between an alien nanny, baby and the mother of the baby who just got back from work. i threw in that car in there because i wanted to show that it was in the future. i am also trying to make the interior a little more futuristic. Please critique this and let me know what you think! Please don't hold back :)
Thanks,
Eric

Hi Eric. I tried to post here earlier today, but the server must have been too busy. I've been thinking about your concept, and it has a lot of potential, but the composition and lighting aren't helping at the moment. I think that making the room smaller and extending the outside (street) could help. The other suggestion would be to go for a more dramatic lighting and color scheme. Try using different colors for the inside and outside; by the way the red light was a good start, cause it links the two parts.
These challenges are a great way to learn, so don't be afraid to make mistakes and have fun!

added in some colors, feedback please :)
the cars outside the window, feel to me like they are competing with the figures, it looks like you are trying to show that the mom is coming home to the nanny alien caregiver? so unless the cars have something to do with that i think it would be best to close the room and make it and interior, or if you want to keep the cars make them smaller and offset in the background.
and bring more light back to the human figure entering the room, its a dark image so far and its hard to notice whats going on, but im sure you will balance the light values out as you add more colors. i hope that helps? just my observations. goodluck in the challenge!

Thanks! the car chase outside is going to be human police chasing alien criminals. does that make it better?
personally i would say focus on one or the other? but hey use your artistic licence to the fullest, right now there needs to be some balance between the two events and to me it seems like they have nothing to do with one or the other, they are fighting for space on your canvas! but whatever you decide best of luck!
That's an interesting concept you're working on Eric, good luck with the challenge!

When I suggested to extend the outside i was thinking of using a vanishing point perspective or sth, but making the window larger makes the room feel more futuristic, which I like. I do agree with what Hfix has said about the light inside the room. Probably, if you make it considerably brighter you won't have to worry about the outside elements competing with the inside ones.
You can use the nanny and baby for the emotional impact, whereas the background could serve to tell more about the story. Not a bad idea at all. In order to do that, you must find a connection between the police cars and the alien nanny. Ask yourself: why would the police be there? Is it about alien discrimination? Is there something wrong with the nanny? I she involved with criminals? Or is it the mother? Who called the police?

im starting to hate it.
hey, so i was playing with color correction on your peice and this is what came out of that...i hope you dont mind...if i have oversteped then just ignore this and accept my apology. but after i played with it i found that it might be better to darken the room and leave the outside brighter...and then remove the mother entering the room all together...it changed the concept story a little, but it makes sense of the police outside...because i was thinking that maybe the nanny is a baby thief?? and if you gave the alien a more scared look and maybe she hides into the shadows of the room, shying away from the window in fear that they will take her human baby...just a thought, take it if you want and feel free to use the sample i played with...
goodluck, dont give up! :P
