Title: Bentley S3-E Concept
Name: Joe Keiser
Country: USA
Software: Maya, mental ray, Photoshop

I designed this concept for the Bentley Boys, USA. The idea was to use the classic lines of the Bentley S3 and add a modern flair to the design. All comments and critiques are welcome. Modeled in Maya 8.5, rendered in mental ray, and touched up in photoshop.

hey,

i like it-the old school/modern designs are my favorite.the only thing that stands out are the side windows-some reflection would help i think.maybe the windows would look better if they weren't opaque?just my opinion.nice work,

This is a highly personal reflection, but I believe that's why we're here.
Bentley and Rolls Royce along with a couple of other always have had a certain style. And with style I mean class.
With that said, no, I don't think your concept works.
It starts quite nice with some subtle things on the front. A nice touch that you left the classic side mirrors.

But, c'mon man, you must see this yourself, the lowrider style together with the rims on that car? It looks like you have mixed Fast and furious with Morse.. (Morse is a British TV series about a police man that has a beautiful Jaguar..). This is something that only an American rap artist would buy.. and no, that's not good. ;)

Before I sound too much like Simon Cowell here..

Azyncron is right dude, I mean this looks like a pimped out Rolls rather than a Bentley concept, U cant put that type of rim on a retro looking concept, it just doesn't work, I think you tried to make the rims look like the classic spoked rims on the old Bentley but it didn't came out like that. Also the brake discs are huuge, and why is the brake calliper yellow?

The model itself is alright athough U still have some modelling problems, U got to have a little patience when modelling, dont just make a simple base mesh and then add TurboSmooth and that's it.Oh and i think the grill is a little to small and flat.
Rendering also could have been better.
I like the colour though it's a good looking british racing green, but again with this model it looks a little off, it doesn't look like a concept in that color, but like an old Rolls with "fresh" rims.
Come on make something better, you're close ;)

thanks guys, i appreciate the feedback. any critique is better than no critique. believe it or not i agree with a lot of what you've said. thing is, when you do something like this for a client, and you get paid for it, you tend to have to throw away some of your artistic integrity to please the customer. maybe i should have mentioned all that in the original post.

as for the windows, it wasn't in my budget to make any kind of interior, so they had to be opaque. i originally had the reflective quality of the glass set much higher, but the reflections made the glass look "too green" (the customer insisted on green windows).

sleepy: i did try to take my time with the modeling, but i only had so much time to take. could you be more specific on where the modeling suffers? i know the roof near the back looks a little funky, and where the side vent fades out was a problem area as well.

n3o_FLaMe: i used 5 area lights, 4 on the sides, and one low-intensity one on the top. i also put a white plane above the car for the reflections. the rest was just playing around the how bright the lights were, GI, FG, and all that tweaking stuff. (i probably did about 100 320x240 renders of a sphere in this environment to get it right.)

thanks again

**edit: i probably also should have mentioned that the bentley boys will be building 3 of these cars from the original s3 chassis and body. basically a classic shell with modern amenities/drivetrain, etc.

I'm really not being disrespectful to your work here, mate..
But.. you should have told the customer, if it was their choice of taste, that it looks awful.
Again, taking a piece of British class and turn it into a vulgar "pimp my Bentley" ride just breaks my heart. Who in their sound fluids would do something like this? Gah...
