I have rendered my animation as stills from frames 1 - 400. I now realize after the fact that I need to add a black sequence of images at the start before the images so now I need advice on the best way to do this. I only have QT Pro.

My image sequence is named apt0001.tif, apt0002.tif, apt0003.tif etc. and I need to add 30 or so black frames before this sequence using QT Pro.

Question- What number would come before apt0001.tif so it would open in same image sequence?

I created a black image and tried using apt-0000.tif, apt-0001.tif, apt-0002.tif etc and dropped these into the same folder as my stills, then opened the image sequence but it did not open the image apt0001.tif after the black image named apt-0000.tif I think this is due to the fact that the - added another digit to the number.

What number would come before apt0001.tif so I can name these black images so they open with the other images in the sequence or do I have to move all of my keyframes and rerender the animation starting from frame 30?

Strange question I know.

Thanks

instead of fiddling with the numbers, you could also export a black segeunce of 30 frames and paste that at the biginning of your movie. You know you can copy paste between movies in Qtpro?

odo, that's probably the best way. I hadn't thought of that. What are you talking about exprting the blackk sequence from? Could you explain how you'd do this. Thanks :)

I also just thought of another way too. Could I not just change my animation length from 1-400 to -30-400 and then set up a background and render the black for the first 30 frames then I wouldn't have to move any keyframes etc?

Another approach could be to use a file renaming utility to rename your rendered files. I have done that before with success: rename the complete batch so the first frame is apt00031.tif and the last apt0431.tif, and do the same with the black frames only these will start with apt0001.tif and go up to apt0030.tif. Put them in the same folder and import.

Another way is to edit them together and export out the sequence with the new numbering. However, this is best when you are planning some other tweaks anyway...

Thanks Anders, I think Photoshop will "Batch" the files and do this. I will give it a try. :)

Maybe you already solved your problem but this is what I suggested:
I was referring to a seperate movie of black frames. You could render it from C4d or duplicate a black image that you export form Photoshop or whatever. Open the black movie in QTpro, copy and paste them into your image sequence. Then you could export a movie or an image sequence form QTpro. But if possible you could also expand your sequence in C4D with a black start and render it all in one go :)

No problem. Its just the way I do it because I can combine a few tasks together and the adding the new segment keeps your 3D work away from your editing... Of course, I believe that you should animate some saftey "bookend" b-roll so make life easier when editing.
