Hey guys!

I'm a big fan of animation, and i'm planning to make my career out of it. I'm starting AnimationMentor in three months because, well who can teach me animation better then the professionals in the business? But i'm worried, because i wonder if animation is going to stay as popular as it is today. I mean seeing gamestudios using MOCAP (motioncapture, for those who don't know) more and more these days. Is it possible that studios need less and less 3d animators because they all switched to MOCAP. Or am i just talking crazy...?
(I really hope i am)
Let me know what you guys think about this...so i can sleep peacefully again:sad:

People will still want to see hand-crafted stuff and whilst there is an audience for it there will always be animation

Pretty much already said, but mocap isnt appropriate for every situation. Cartoony, vehicles, creatures, effects, stylized, ect are all viable options. Atop that, let games use mocap for all the WWII solider animations, it fits perfectly and is a great use of the medium. But when its comes to gnarly aliens and impossible machines, tag those with hand keyed.

Listening to the commentary on the Spider-man Movie DVDs they were originally thinking of using MoCap, but they decided against it, because like tadmod said, you can't use mocap for everything, and MoCap couldn't do what they wanted with their models. If you ask me I think keyframe animating is growing instead of the otherway around, people are getting so good at keyframing it seems like it's almost on par with MoCap. Keyframing seems ALOT more popular in the gaming industry then it does in tv/movie.
