Well, here's my latest attempt. Not quite sure what it is yet...started as a doodle, did some basic photoshop coloring:

http://homepage.mac.com/mpatton1/conceptb.jpg

Brought that into Wings, and I'm starting to model:

http://homepage.mac.com/mpatton1/ConceptStart1.jpg

Not very far along on the modelling yet, but I'll keep updating. :)

Cool concept! I like his glasses!
I was wondering... Are there any tutorial on basic colouring in photoshop?

Thanks for the comments

Small update, starting to model the goggles (I tend to jump around a bit while modeling. Body, goggles. Oh well  )

I'll get some more renders up later tonight.

This is coming along cool, dig the guns and stuff..only thing I'd say at the moment is that the char is starting to look a bit dodgy compared to the gear..which is kinda right for the sketch, but it'd be nice if he was as 'fully made' as the rest. Keep on..

Good point, Hypercube. As I say, I tend to skip around in the modeling. The body at the moment isn't done; I just moved on for a bit to the parts I find more interesting, but I will definately go back and finish the body. Thanks for the comment :D

is it just me or does the 2d concept look a lot like Bubs from homestarrunner.com? Well. i'm cool with that. Bubs rules.

mpatton

Not quite what I had in mind, but I guess there is some resemblence:

Hey mpatton!! Your character is coming along nicely. I really like all the extras your giving him. They are modeled very cleanly and look neat too :).. Perhapes his body could use more work. It feel likes its in the inbetween stage of either being a simple stylized character or a muscley detailed character. I think the idea of a very simple smooth character (no muscle detail) with an abundance of neat gadgets would be a very cool way to go. Your doing a fine job mpatton!!! Keep it up and keep posting updates!!

He should be more fat around his middle, according to the 2D picture... don't you agree??

Funny character..

Thanks Fetus, Straightmark :D

I agree with both of your comments. I'll try to fix those things up as soon as I can.

Slightly de-muscled, bigger bellied. Not enough, though, I think. I'll get it right soon ;)

Been pretty busy the last few days, so I haven't had a chance to work on this guy much. Managed to get in a small update today, though. Starting on a jacket. Nothing fancy yet.

I think you can improve the elbow zone....the arm there is a little be throttled and squared....

the arm muscles are a little bit squared...but maybe it's only a style matter...

Well, been a while since I've worked on this. Decided to try to pose the character yesterday. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if I have the patience to pull everything around in Wings, so it's far from quality work. Here's a couple shots, maybe you guys can help me get it right:

http://homepage.mac.com/mpatton1/PoseTest3.jpg
http://homepage.mac.com/mpatton1/PoseTest4.jpg

Threw him in a little box to get a basic idea of a shot I might be going for:

I have to say I enjoy watching the progress of your work, Your character has lot's of character. I like what I'm seeing. I can't wait to see more stuff. It's very inspiring.:buttrock:

Starting on an environment, did a quick composite with the character in it:

Still a long way to go, but it's getting there (I hope ;) )

ZeroNeuro

This looks great mpatton. Really impressed. The environment needs some dramatic lighting tho, dark corners, and such. Which is actually a good thing cause it allows you to be more concentrative on key points you want to be noticed. Put some shadow into the corners. :)

Cheers

06-07-2003, 04:13 AM
Thanks for the comments, all :D

Here's an updated shot:

http://homepage.mac.com/mpatton1/PoseShot3.jpg

Zero: I plan on working on the lighting once I get some more of the interior modeled. It will definately be darker, right now there are lights everywhere so I can see where I'm going ;)

DaKingPen: Thanks a lot! Really means a lot to me to hear that

What software do you use to pose him?

mpatton
06-07-2003, 06:03 AM
Well, I actually just posed him in Wings. Took a while, and didn't come out quite as I had hoped, but I don't really have an alternative.

mpatton
06-08-2003, 11:19 PM
Sort of an update. Basically just different lighting, though. Rendered in a Cinema4D trial (a bit of a waste of time, as I can't save the model).

Let me know what you think.

Aww! He looks to friendly to be killing things!

Also - he looks the type of build/character that could wield an almighty gun if need be... Perhaps a 'man-cannon' on his back?

Very sweet,

:D

i like the face and the glasses. the complete scene is funny but...the textures could use some work!

nice one, very sweet dude, but looks more like a chiller, who hangs lazy around on some spacestation with a drink or two.
Not the hot guy who shoots around like Arnold Schwarzeneger.

But he has flair

inkyspot
06-09-2003, 02:17 AM
Now all he (it) needs is a partner, maybe robotic and skinny, and you can't forget the ship, it's been through the ringer, but it's fast and manages to hold together (hint-Han Solo).

I agree with the textures, put some time into it and it would make your work a spicy finish.

Keep up the great work.

Started working on a ship last night, got some renders of what I've done so far. Not much to show yet, I think this is one of the engines that will go on it (I think :p )

http://homepage.mac.com/mpatton1/ShipStart.jpg

Oh, and sorry about the weird little engine in there. Not quite sure what to put, that's just filling up space for now.

ZeroNeuro
06-14-2003, 05:50 PM
hey neat :) Not sure the aerospace industry would use anything like that. However, I think the Robot Warriors would appreciate that little combustion engine. Hooah!
