I am an EIUniverse user... an very happy with it...

but I really want to add another tool that will do really good subdiv. modeling (poly-based) and decent character animation...

Has anyone using both apps? How do they compare/differ?
Is C4D's interface intuitive?

ALSO... how much does C4D do right out of the box without modules like mocca and dynamics? can it do rigs? IK? fur, radiosity, caustics, UVmapping (and 'unwrapping')?

too many questions... i know.

Hi Rev,

I've just recently sold EI and moved over to Cinema. I have the basic package - it doesn't have radiosity, caustics or advanced charachter stuff, but Maxan do offer a cross grade from EI that gives you all the main modules. However, the basic app does give you bones, IK and function curves.

Sub D stuff is much easier in C4D, If you look around any C4D gallery you can see that it's quite able to produce great stuff. It's not as forgiving as EI Modeller as it will only work with tri's & quads, where EIM can use 'ngons' in it's controll cage. I don't think though, that the implementation is a good as Lightwaves.

The interface is great. It's so much better to have all you need in one app, not two. I find it much better to work with than EI(M).

I don't regret moving over to C4D!!

Hope that helps

nige.

(PS Loved Robodance btw!)

The polymodeling in C4D is rather good, and the point/edge/face hypernurbs weighting helps a lot, maybe you'd find some difficulty working without ngons. It's the most intuitive 3D app i've ever tried (and i've tried Max, Maya and XSI too) the interface is amazing and 100% customizable. Prolly i've never seen two identical C4D guis so far, everybody can easily customize his own personal gui. About IK, fur, radiosity, caustics and UVmapping-unwrapping... I think you should consider buying the Advanced Render module to add caustics and GI. Shave & Haircut can help you for fur simulation, Bodypaint3D can help you for UVs editing. I hope it helps. :wavey:

Thanks guys!

(loved the fact you loved robodance!!!!! your comment made my day!!!!)

Thirdeye: that's a REALLY impressive gallery you have! especially the head. Was that done with the 'out of the box' C4D?

(i'd love to get the XL version... but at the moment I can't. I really did like the idea of buying software is pieces!!!!! For EIU or LW you have to dish out the entire amount at once! This way i can add mocca and shave later on though!)

as for GI stuff, I don't worry too much. If i'm doing anything for print I would probably bring it into EIU and texture it there. It's still a killer app.

Thanks a lot man, yeah that head was 100% C4D (Bodypaint3D and Photoshop for the textures)

if you can afford it personally i'd go for
xl version with bodypaint.
studio only gives you dynamics...+ unlimited net licenses...and you get three i think with xl anyway...
also advanced render..well worth the bucks...mocca etc etc.

what you planning to do though...cos that makes a difference to you thinking..eg stills...animation...

yeah I would get the bundle and then add on bodypaint as soon as you can afford it.

that and shave, shave seems to bea pretty dran impressive program. but that is always going on sale I would wait till it does before buying it.

unless of course you really just have to have fur and hair. which you probibly do but anyway good luck.

ohh didnt you hear, the Copy of Cinema that thirdeye was using came with a perfect head button.

and I think with his 8.1 upgrade they added a perfect photoreal car one too.

see if you can get his copy.
