I'm in the process of teaching myself some programming, but I don't know what I should apply it towards. I'm focusing on animation, rigging, modeling, (and scripting I guess) for my demo reel, so I'd like to do something for those areas. Are there any cool things you've seen that were custom made and would show that I have some proficiency? I'm not trying to be a hard core coder, I just want to be useful with it. I'm using XSI, and will probably code in Jscript, maybe Python if I can ever get it to work on Vista 64. Any ideas?

First of all I would discourage you from focusing on 4 areas of specialty. I would advise you to choose one. If it's scripting you want, then try to find something that annoys you about XSI and see if you can streamline it with scripting. For example, In maya there is no way to constrain a vert to an edge when modeling like there is in max, if I were into scripting, I would make a tool that did that. Hope this helps
