this is a scene concept sketch.. alien and human kids playing with "war of the worlds"-style tripod against green-plastic soldiers and tanks among sand-built village, having fun on a sunny day on the beach

well Im almost done with the boy's head.. hair needs more work.. Im gonna fix it this morning.. I like the alien the way it is.. of course both heads needs displacement (not so much actually, at least not as much as other character Ive worked on).. the target atmosphere is a 1950-style cartoon-like adv., so roooound edges and very light colors.. the image should inspire calm and joy..

the final camera setup will probably be much more like the skecth than I tought before.. I just kind of got used to it so I think Ill keep that p.o.w.

working on both bodies as well, will post a wip asap..

my goal is to have an ambient-occlusion rendering for both final models during next weekend..

meanwhile.. playin with Vue6 for the location background & hdri..

looks good work my friend, the alien looks good till now, but the boy needs more work ... maybe moving his jaw a bit back ...

yep the jaw has to be moved back I agree.. and the hair was just a test.. but I wanted to post a wip anyway.. btw these are just base meshes, im starting to sculpt..

scene set test render.. only the 2 main characters are missing.. as well as other small things like the little soldiers and sand castles..

I've been quite busy, moving to my new house, so that my effort for the competition during the last 2 weeks or so has been almost inexistent.. altought I managed to keep up working during my spare time at work, it has been definitely difficult to take care of every aspect of the intended final image..

btw Ive been working hard in the last few days and tried to keep up with the things left to be done (and there were a lot :)).. last friday I got my computer up and running in a brand new white empty room.. working like that is a bit.. strange you know, but Im trying to finish everything before the competition deadline..

I must say nevertheless Im quite happy with the results Im getting.. happy to have had the possibility to work with XSI, and happy to have learned a huge amount of things, and I think THIS is the real spirit of the competition..

my only concern regards forum participation, as I still dont even have a stable internet connection (and I will not for at least a couple of months), but that is..

btw, hope everyone (me included) will finish in time! :)

when thinking about aliens most people start wondering about invasions, wars, laser beams and hungry man-eaters coming from flying saucers.. well I wanted to give a different vision, and whats better than kids playing? The only word that I kept in mind while working on the image was "joy", and thats what I wanted both the main characters to express, as well as the entire picture as a whole.. thats all about it..
