View Full Version : Hardrive partitian size question?

Hi,
I just bought an 80 gig Maxtor drive for my computer. It's one of the new 8 meg buffer models. Anyhow, I've been using an old 10 gig drive for the last four years or so. Since my new drive is so much bigger I'm going to partitian the hell out of it. My main concern though is how big to make the OS partitian. I use Windows 2000 and install my apps and files on a other partitians.

So... how big should I make the OS partitian? I'm thinking 8 gigs. Enough? Too much?

Depends on your applications, mostly. At work 20 gig is just enough for the system/applications protected partition. Protection takes a couple of GB though. I would say make it 15 gig. I make it 20 usually just in case, drives are dirt cheap anyway.

Thanks. I hate to sound dumb, but what is a protected partitian and is it something I need? Thanks again.

No, you don't need it. I've mentioned it cause where I work we need a little more space on the C: drive because it needs some extra space for that protection scheme. It would be useless for an individual user.
