I decided to try a toon style image. The idea is pretty simple an alien is being ticketed by a police officer for speeding.

Sorry for the crappy sketch.

Love the idea and character looks great imho
Preety funny style. Definitely nice hands too :)

I was wondering how useful a deformer plugin might be in
trying to model toon characters. Only useful I'd imagine.
Enjoying your thread.

Thanks, glad you like it. I have not tried using deformers for modeling yet. But it definitely sounds like a good idea. I will have to give it a try.

Started working on the scene background. It still needs a lot of work, especially the lighting and textures. But it is a start.

The trees, plants, and sky images are from total Textures v15 (toon textures).

I wasn't happy with the composition before. So moved things around a little. Also added in the police officer.

Now to move on to creating the alien.

Working on my little alien.

Funny toon caracters. Black contour on trees in previous pict looks too thick for me, but it's just my opinion.

Great. :)

Great work on your character, they fit together very nicely, fantastic.

Thanks for the comments on the characters guys.

David, I agree about the tree outlines. It is one of the things I am planning to work on to improve the background scenery. There are other things I am not happy with such as the ground coloring and the skyline. Also still not quite happy with the camera angle either.

Still lots to do, but I think I will actually be able to finish the contest this time.

Textured and rigged the alien.

I finally got all the elements in the scene. Now to work on the lighting and tweaks to the textures.

Another humorous take on the road concept here in cgchallenge! I am wondering what the little alien spacecraft is doing on the road. Shouldn't it be up in the sky? How do the policeman catch the alien speeding if it is up in the sky? Perhaps you can make the setting in the sky, the policeman in his futuristic police uniform and police skycar? That will be much more fun to work on :)

All the best, Tom!

Thanks for the comments guys.

jeromoo, I agree doing a futuristic policeman could be lots of fun. But I think it would lose some of its humor. Plus I dont have much more time to work on this image. Thanks again for the feedback.

Working on the lighting and the textures. Still needs more work.

I also changed the composition a little. I moved the policeman closer to the camera. I think this makes image more balances. Let me know what you think.

Here is a scaled down version of my final render. It took 6 hrs 30 mins to render the image full size. Wasn't quite sure if my old pc could do it.

Now to bring it in to Photoshop for the final touches.

Hi,

You do a good job, but i think that your image is too clean, too 3D effect, you know ? And also, the tree on right is a little bit stange. It's important because our eyes go to this place at the first. I prefer the last render.

So, i hope my comments will be usefull.
Have a nice day and continue to work !

Hi Prout62,

Thanks for the feedback. I will see what I can do to fix the tree and to dirty things up a bit.

I fixed some flaws in the render and adjust some of the colors. I also toned down the tree behind the alien to try to match the other trees. Hopefully it is no longer drawing attention to itself.

Still have more touch ups I want to do.

This alien desperately doesn't want another speeding ticket, afraid his flying saucer insurance rates will go up.
