I decided to make a card for my girlfriend for easter, something simple but effective.
This is what came out a few hours later.
Never used fur before, thought id give it a shot, found it difficult to get a depth channel for DOF when working with fur, but I have a deadline of...right now to finish it.
Rendered in mental ray, 8 hours (high, i know), put the quality settings up pretty high and have a few hundred thousand fur density combined with final gather making it somewhat processor intensive.
All 3D done in maya, DOF composited later in PS.
Critique however you wish, it has served its purpose.

Grass on foreground look very simple, fur on eeg look good, elso u need post editing with some fx in PS ;)

the grass on the foreground and background are the same. both are just fur with random colour and direction. the grass was a last minute inclusion to cover the image map and give the shadow a little depth.
but im not sure what you mean by the post editing fx...
