Best of luck!
03-22-2008, 12:08 AM
Thanks Thaldir, I have a decent idea floating around in my head ... I think... now I have to get sketching
03-22-2008, 02:48 AM
Thanks for not posting any images, my 56k modem thanks you very much.hehe sometimes it takes a while to comment :)
good to see more familiar faces in the comp.
03-22-2008, 03:30 PM
Here is my concept, very very rough as usual for me. Freak show, I haven't thought out my human freaks much yet.
03-22-2008, 03:41 PM
hi Marley :D oh my gosh I feel for ya with that modem. I Just got a decent connection after 4 yrs of fighting with that slow stuff.
Humans on display. Excellent idea! I like the whimsical direction you're taking.
03-26-2008, 01:20 AM
Thank you JTD, I didn't want to get into too much painting detail so it is very rough. I am trying to get my head around the XSI software, but my goodness it is not very user friendly so far.
03-26-2008, 02:23 AM
Hey Linda, you're in this one, and off to a running start too. I like your idea a lot
03-26-2008, 10:08 AM

03-26-2008, 11:29 AM

04-04-2008, 10:53 AM
Thank you Michael and Pegahoul, see if I can get anywhere with this. I didn't realize the deadline for images was different until a few days ago :D so gotta get cranking here
04-04-2008, 11:52 AM
your character looks a little crazy. looks fun.
04-04-2008, 12:05 PM
Lovely idea and very fun character.
04-05-2008, 09:45 AM
Been playing with my first alien a bit more. I think I have a concept on that one that is workable now,
04-05-2008, 11:40 AM
That's an awesome character, lots of personality, looking forward to seeing the image progress.
04-05-2008, 02:31 PM
What a nice and cute alien design! Actually, it is kind of hard to think of alien as freaks in a freak show because to the aliens, what exactly is a freak like to their own kind? Maybe they are freaks in our own viewpoint, but that's what makes them aliens in the first place. Hmmm... Just thinking too much, but please don't mind me and do go on.
Oh, how about the aliens are more comfortable around human freaks than normal ones, because human freaks look similar to them? Just an idea.
04-05-2008, 04:45 PM
Thanks for the comments :D
hmm jeremoo that is certainly some things to think about.. I have not really thought out my humans much. Trying to get the character concepts done for my aliens first then I will think out the cage or cages and humans. Excellent idea you posted :)
04-05-2008, 04:46 PM
Here is my concept for the second big alien. Now I am going to have to think out the alien children.
04-06-2008, 12:08 AM
one concept for a baby alien
04-06-2008, 01:26 AM
Those aliens are superb. I especially like that first one. This should look fantastic when it all comes together
04-06-2008, 09:02 AM
Thank you Mark :)
04-08-2008, 11:30 PM
Love your aliens they're so funny.
Last one is drooling. Cute, I think he needs his eye though ;)
04-12-2008, 01:52 AM
starting to put things together, have a lot more aliens to add though and not sure about the blue guy...
04-12-2008, 01:54 AM
Thanks spin :), ha ha the little guy is all eye
04-12-2008, 04:37 AM
hello Linda! :p i think i know who i should turn to when it comes to cute aliens :p
me like the role reversal concept! very interesting and for a change too :p :D keep goin my friend! lookin forward to your next post!
04-12-2008, 10:20 PM
ha ha the little guy is all eyeAh got it sry. Something tells me a girl painted him and I find it kinda sexy don't ask why (something about his fingers shape of his eye and drool huh) I like the blue guy too. I think you need to bring a lot of aliens in, then decide if you keeping all of them? Nice concept keep it up ;)
04-14-2008, 01:06 PM
Hey it's great seeing it coming together. Keep up the great work
04-14-2008, 02:13 PM
Thanks mdavid :)
ha ha spin I am not sure how to reply to that, but yes I am going to add many aliens hopefully I get some time to work on this in the next few days.
of course you can come to me for cute aliens nwiz :)
04-15-2008, 09:49 PM
Tiny bit more progress , have not had as much time as I have wanted to have to work on this.
04-17-2008, 08:23 PM
just been making a mess basically :)
04-18-2008, 12:42 AM
not much of an update, but thought I would post it
04-18-2008, 11:50 AM
still working on it
04-19-2008, 07:27 AM
Whoah! Lots of progress. Great work - this is a fun image. I really like that slime look about the floor and dripping off the walls. Perhaps some of that slime could be formed into clumps/lumps/mounds on the floor to suggest that it's not so watery. If that's awkward to fit your composition then all you would need to do is to very slightly pile up some clumps of slime along the edges where the floor meets the wall
04-19-2008, 12:12 PM
Thank you Mark and great idea with the slime stuff :) I still have to get into some shadow and light work so this is the perfect time to add goopy piles .
04-19-2008, 03:20 PM
another smallish update
04-19-2008, 03:44 PM
04-21-2008, 02:04 PM
Enjoy the freak show :)
04-21-2008, 02:38 PM
Thats amazing work as always! your concepts always are great!
04-21-2008, 02:49 PM
That's some strange seaweeds growing on the slimy floor! What are those things?
I think it will benefit the whole image better if you depict the humans more clearly. They could be squashed in their glass cells in awkward pose, without an inch of room to move, especially the fat one. :) She could have this bulging-eyed scared expression on her face. Perhaps she could have some feeding tubes running down her mouth like a sick feeding show.
The overall colours are nice!
04-21-2008, 04:17 PM
Thank you Greatto :)
Thank you so much Jeromoo, excellent suggestions, I will admit though I am awful at painting humans so that is why they are so cartoony looking. I thought about adding an icecream cone in her hand, but I really like the feeding tube idea. That could get messy and goopy ha ha. Those things on the floor are actually little aliens sliming around, if you look closely they have eyeballs and sucker feet for sliding around.
04-21-2008, 05:47 PM
Hi Linda! I love those little squid arm creature things! The whole image is very fun indeed and I am starting to wonder wether I should have done a more fun piece myself haha. The aliens look fantastic. I agree that the humans could be a bit more visible but I totally understand where you are coming from.
very good indeed
04-21-2008, 10:03 PM
Thank you Andy :)... let's see here I have a few more days, maybe I can try to work on that fat lady at least.
04-28-2008, 09:26 PM
I've got some extra time so trying to get my fat lady to look at least somewhat finished. I think I have her workable now. Lassoed a bunch of stuff and moved it around a bit, roughed in a new hand and a feeding tube as per Jeromes suggestion.
05-01-2008, 01:48 PM
Still working on it a bit, I am really hoping the fat lady is improved from the earlier version. I struggle so much with people. I still have some time so, will work on my aliens a bit more.
05-01-2008, 10:21 PM
Here is my freak show :)
05-03-2008, 02:49 PM
I am still plugging away at my fat lady, I could really use some crits or advice if anyone has any to offer. I know her hand is off and I am going to attempt to fix that next. I am having some problems with the lower belly fat too.
05-03-2008, 07:03 PM
Dunno how much advice I can give you except it gets better the more you work on it.
Furs looking nice I personally love freak shows. Her hand looks great I love the finger.
But you can improve on it if you want. I love the lower belly fat too.
But yeh I suppose it could look more like belly fat..
Very funny hope you keep at it 'till it's beautifully detailed.
Nice one :buttrock:
05-03-2008, 08:18 PM
Thank you very much Spin :) ha ha yeah I guess I will keep painting until I run out of time
05-03-2008, 08:23 PM
okey dokey another update on her
05-05-2008, 09:17 AM
Enjoy the Freak Show. Thanks everyone for the help and advice.
05-05-2008, 01:47 PM
Hi Linda, I'm really glad to see you taking extra effort to paint more details into the Fat Lady. Now there's a clearer and better interaction between the aliens and the human. Congratulations on finishing it! Cheers! :D
05-05-2008, 05:50 PM
Thank you Jerome and thank you for that little push to make me paint her more. :) Good luck with your entry.
05-06-2008, 09:31 AM
Congratulations Linda! You've crossed the finish line with a delightful image. The extra work and details you put in during the last days really paid off too - they add a lot of value and interest to image

05-07-2008, 07:00 PM
Congratulations! Always fun to see humour in art, and more when it's pretty good detailed humour like you have done it! (http://forums.cgsociety.org/misc.php?do=getsmilies&wysiwyg=1&forumid=0#)The new perspective you did in all of them as aliens looking at the freak humans! :bounce: (http://forums.cgsociety.org/misc.php?do=getsmilies&wysiwyg=1&forumid=0#) Itís great and ironic, and maybe also sad for the same reasons, I mean this could be true haha!:surprised
:lightbulb Again Good Luck! And I hope you get the best result!;)
05-07-2008, 09:51 PM
Hello Linda, I like the image you have created here alot. I think those little aliens have kidnapped alot of poor people for their traveling peep show :o. That woman looks fairly content, perhapes one day she will awaken to her slavery, bust her bubble and trample the evil cute aliens, much like elephants in the circus...Wonderful stuff :D and good luck to you linda!
05-08-2008, 10:13 AM
scala - how about 8 eyes? :) thank you
