Aww, he's cute.

The likes: Love the DOF, just right. Great perspective giving sense of intended motion, good camera work all around. Funny shot.

The dislikes: The tape is too transparent or something. I'd go for the more milky white variety. The rubberbands don't seem to grip tightly except at the bends. Also, I'd like to see some more facial expression, esp around the mouth.

Other than that, sexy stuff.

Cheers,

-Tony Wooster

Cool thanx for the crit!
I agree with your dislikes..
definately some work needs to be done..
I haven't really done many textures on this yet..
I'll have to adjust the rubber bands also..

thanx!

Can't really add anything to what Tony has already said - just to say that I love the concept and humour of the piece. The tiny goggles and the kamikaze headband really work well. Head of the match needs a little work maybe? Great work and best of luck getting this into Expose.:)

Has this already been accepted for Expose? Are you texturing it for this purpose,or just hoping it will get accepted? It looks good, but for expose I am not too sure.Only the top 2% or so of all the work out there gets accepted, right?
Still it looks good, fun, and has potential with more work,it could get there.

This is looking great- I love the way you've done the matchbox and the ragged ends of the scotch tape where its been cut off add nicely to the realism. I can see where you've had problems with the bottle, but I'm not great shakes at texturing so I'm not really sure what to suggest here. The wire could look a bit more metallic, but maybe you haven't got round to them yet.

As for Expose entries - well personally, for me, I love this image because its got such great humour and for the imagination that's gone into it. I like the photorealistic portraits as much as the next person and they astound me with how much talent must go into them, but this image stands out as just being something different and comical - so, road, best of luck with it - I really hope you get in! I think it would look great as an animated short too...

Martypt any work by any person has the potential of getting accepted by expose... Is it a long shot that I may be accepted.. well possibly but I'll never know if this piece would be accepted if I don't enter it... I have much work to go on this piece and with crits assisting me to get to that point, then I feel confident I'll have a good piece to enter.

FallenSwordsman yea I feel i have quite a ways to go on the texturing.. I am working on not only the textures but i am fixing some geometry problems as well. Thanx for the compliment. My thoughts are that this piece is somewhat unique so that may be something going in my favor. I guess we'll see if this piece is different enough and good enough to make the grade... Anyway I would love to do an animated short with this guy and I have been thinking about some different stories for this guy.. at some point when i have some time I may get some story boards going.. I guess we'll see....

i thkn that the big fire works need to have the red paint in the nose cracked, u know what i mean?

and i think that u should make the little dude's expression more visible

Raul-Reznek thanx for your crits...
I have to still texture the rockets and the cockroach...
hopefully that brings out the expression more...

Dalaran AW I'm having problems with the depth of field creating that black line so i am going to render in different passes and composite the final image together to solve the problem...

The glass is a bit dull looking, increase the refractions a bit, make it more transparent and more reflective and give it some caustics...

Cheers, Ell.

Looking better. Increase the translucency of the glass - the shadows are too dark from it (this will mean you will have to decrese the diffuse).

Update when you have done some textures on the little dude...

Cheers, Ell.

Also use a displacement map on the ground (a B+W of the colour map ure using) - that will give it more realism.

Great work, but the bottle looks like it is balancing on the stone, and the fireworks assembly ought to flip it over... maybe you should show more of the bottle to show how it is set up?

looking better and better all the time ...except the poor bottle :P

I'd suggest you try to use some fresnel reflection on the bottle, it's far too reflective currently.

Deadline coming up on this one! This looks great, Road, you've really improved things from the first images, especially with the bottle. Matchstick could be a little less yellow? Good work though, I really hope that this makes it in!
