View Full Version : tweak mode?
strongforce 05-08-2003, 02:04 AM hey, other than freely moving vertexes what does tweak mode do and how does it help to model?
One more thing, how do I take screen shots?

Huh?
Well,it lets you move-->free vertices,edges and faces,
without having to go into the menus.
It also lets you define a falloff, press 1 to enable it,
+ and - to define the area of influence,
and 2,3, and 4 to change between different falloff types.
It's really not much more too it...
Oh,and remember to use the view along axis keys to restrict moves to a plane.
(Default z Z,x X and y Y)
As for how does it help...well...
It lets you tweak the verts you've created using all the other nice tools,
like extrude and connect and cut and stuff.
It's just WAY faster than using the menus to do free moves.

yes tweak freely moves vertex's edges and faces , and if thats not helping your modelling i dont know what will
hit print screen for a screen shot than paste it in photoshop

If you've got PaintShop Pro, you can use that for screen caps as well.
File -> Import -> Screen Capture -> Setup
Settings there allow all sorts of options, including an area capture one, so's you only grab the bit you need. (On v 7, anyway)
Tweak mode - linked page has some ideas for using TM for making 2D profiles (to turn into 3D objects) ........could use Move | Free, but it'd be a right pain - as others have indicated.

I prefer using the Gimp for my screencaps :)
First, use the print screen button,or,if you want to have a smaller pic,
you can always resize the wings window,
and then hit Alt+print screen to only print the active window.
Then,in the Gimp,go to the file menu,
and then Aquire, and finally choose from clipboard.
Then you can crop and whatever else you want.
and it's FREE! :)

PSPro V5 (full wkg version) has been on mag cover cds for at least 6 months or so - I saw one today, here in the UK :)
At the end of the day, use whatever you get on with.......

I like to use GrabClipSave (http://gcs.boumchalak.net) for my screen capture.
It's a freeware small util that captures the PrtScrn [whole screen] and Alt+PrtScrn [active window] and automatically saves it to a dir you specify in .bmp, .jpg or .png incrementing the filename with a number, all configured by you.
So as I am doing a tutorial, I just go on and press PrtScrn when I need it and at the end I just go to the dir I chose and have all the pics there, ready to edit, delete, whatever ;)
I hope you can find this useful.
Best regards.

Yeah PP,you brits get all the nice freebies.
I've spent the last week trying to get a hold of the latest issue of Digit,
but it seems not a single newsagent in norway sells it :(
Guess I'll have to get a hold of those $100 to get the MB deal from 3dBuzz.
As for PPS,I actually have the free thingie...
Got it off of computer arts or something like that,I think.
I really like that the gimp is open source,
and that EVERY single function is available through scripting :)
Been having a blast lately playing with perl-fu and the Gimp perl module.:bounce: :bounce:
Paintshop Pro ain't bad tho, it's just I find the Gimp to be much more capable.
Oh,and thanks for the tip about GrabClipSave JPGargoyle.
Seems like it can make it much easier to take loads of screenies.
Will have to take it for a spin one of these days :)

This'll probably drift OT a bit .....
<< all the nice freebies >>
Sometimes - but there's a lotta junk that's not worth bothering with - especially if you've got very specific interests (like me :) ) .....so I now don't subscribe to any mag and buy very few.
<< latest issue of Digit >>
As Bj mentioned this, I did buy - but there's a known problem with the cd - in spite of trying the fix, I've still not got MB to work (prob. me, but I decided to stop wasting time) - the 3D buzz route seems the better anyway ($100 cheaper, with manuals) - but carriage/postage might be a problem?
<< Paintshop Pro ain't bad tho >>
I wouldn't really know - I only use it for the screen grab / browse and batch convert facilities. As I'm far more familiar with photoshop, I use that for everything else :)
Had a quick look at GCS, but since it doesn't cope with .gifs - it doesn't offer anything over current method - apart from the fact I'm used to it....... :)
As said before - each to his / her own - at the end of the day it's the results that count - imo.

(D Benton over at ODF mentioned another grab facility sometime ago - if I find it, will post same.)

Except ... for memory consumptiom.
Try to capture more than 100 screens (as I did while making a tut) using PaintShopPro and see where your memory goes!
PsP keeps all the captured images open at the same time while GrabClipSave directly writes them to disk.
And you can convert them all in one go to GIF with PsP batch conversion or with IrfanView.
Best regards.

Valid point .....but not for me, as I'm not grabbing full screens - or anything close to one - only small snippets that have been marqueed in the first place to roughly the required size.
These psp are batch converted (using psp - I did mention this) - but to tiffs (gifs don't work on separate layers in p/shop) - then once the montage is finished (in pshop) it's posterized to minimum cols etc prior to being saved as a gif.
Most layers I've had in pshop - direct from psp grabs is 147 btw :)
It's a route that may not be perfect - but it's worked fine (for me) for the last 18 months or so - and allows for flexibility of choice with respect to the 'slices' that end up in the final tut 'strip' - if that's what I'm doing.
Am not forcing the method on anyone - or suggesting / stating it's the best / only way - just saying how I do it :)

Wow! That would be impossible for me to do with my lame machine :(

Me neither! I'm just trying to help. That's all.
