View Full Version : generating speed lines? (1st person view)
megacrazy 03-20-2008, 04:30 PM HELLO to all the masters out there~ (or in here.. this forum)
I would like to make some animated speed lines (1st person view) in AE. Let's say i'm riding a motorcycle and I would like to make it look like a... little bit like an anime style. (only the speed lines) I thought of using blur but.. that wouldn't generate the lines I want.
Any help would be appriciated. Thank you~

Create some dots and use a radial blur or add some stripes to a composition, precompose it and use the distortion->polar coordinates filter.

You can also to some degree use tools such as CC Rays, Radial Blur, shine and similar tools in other plugin suites. You may need to use Alpha Levels effects and Fill to "flatten" them a bit.

Take the object that you want the "blurred speed lines", duplicated and then pre-compose (comp 1)and pre-compose again (comp 2).
In comp 2, use levels or curves to increase the highlightes and increase the darker areas, then on that use shift channels with lightness or luminance chosen. Extend the comps time by 3 (if the time of the footage is 10 seconds then you need 30 sec etc) or more and time stretch the time of your footage to match the comp.
In comp 1, take comp 2 and add time-remapping or use time stretch to comp timeline. Apply Echo and tweak from there.
That should work. I've used that technique a few times - but you may want to pre-render those pre-comps before your final. I have had problems with frames jumping because of the "double time stretch". You may have to adjust the time-remapping and the echo numbers and decay to suit your needs but it should give you a good start.
Hope that helps

I've also generated speed lines with CC Rain and other particle generators.
