hi

I'm beginning to learn texturing and I'm trying to texture a subd head I've done. I find that when I select faces and try to map and manipulate the uvs maya really slows down. I am beginning wonder if normal people uv map polys and somehow transfer the UVs to the subd surface (if so how!?). Could someone please give me a hint how subd surfaces are laid out?

thanks for your time

Okay. You can transfer poly uvs to the poly proxy, and by setting "inheirt poly uvs" they stick.

The thing is, though, sub surfaces are more complex than the base 0 mesh, so how can you get a detailed enough uv layout?:hmm: Transfering UVs from a level 1 convered mesh doesn't work.

thanks for your time

did a bit more reading and searching and found that I should just turn off display geometry under the subd attributes. This way as I manipulate the subd level UVs there is no update. No need to work on a polygonal copy and transfer UVs. Subd UVs are more precise anyway. Sorry to waste time like this. Hope it helps someone

cheers
