One thing I would like to point out, which wasn't mentioned in the feature, was the work of the Rigging dept... They did an amazing job! So hear hear to our rigging buddies!

Good article and yes, standing ovation for the riggers on this show :applause:.
The great performances wouldn't be possible with all that "under the hood" tech....and of course great models that deform beautifully.

One area that blew me away was the environments in both the jungle of Nool and Who-ville. I didn't see any of the jungle stuff until very late in the process, but when I did, I just thought -- wow, that looks cool.
I had nothing to do with the environments. My good friend, Sal Melluso, supervised some really skilled modelers to help make these great looking environments. He also modeled Horton the elephant and did an AMAZING job there too.
There are so many other teams (design, fur, materials, story, rigging, layout, pre-vis, assembly, animation, sculpting, and I'm sure I'm missing some folks) that made this our best film to date (IMHO) both visually and in terms of the cinematic feel. With an article like this this, there is no way to ever count the the many people who worked so hard on such a project, but I can say as a whole, Blue Sky Studios has some A-M-A-Z-I-N-G-L-Y skilled artists working there.

it looks fantastic, the art-direction and just the concept of bringing this book to life is fantastic. all credit to everyone that worked on it. i love the exploration of 3d and 2d combined. i'm going to see it this weekl, but from what i've seen so far, it has just done a great book justice!

That was a very interesting article, I didn't realize Blue Sky was that integrated with Maya.

I love Blue Sky. Those guys are geniuses. Love the stylism/imagination of Dr. Suess too. Has it's own charm.

I had to wait a little bit longer to see it come out here in The Netherlands, but it finally did, and I was blown away with especially the stylization of the environments and original characters, very cool!
I was wondering, if there is going to be a making-of / artbook of this movie? It would be awesome to get a closer look at all the designs and hear the thoughts and ideas behind the artdirection. Also,if anyone knows of any blogs or websites from people who worked on this movie, please let me know, I'd appreciate it! :)

Watching Horton's rear end move across that bridge was the high-point for me: modelers, riggers, animators.. you got it down perfect!
Growing up with Dr. Seuss, this was absolutely true to the original books in every way. Great job by everyone on the team!

Yeah, Vlad seems really cool! I haven't gotten the chance to see the movie yet, since I've been ridiculously buried with my thesis project, but the trailer looks awesome. I've taken a couple classes with a couple Blue Sky guys, Danny Williams and Adam Burr, and they were great. (Adam set up Vlad's feathers, which look ridiculously cool in the trailer. Did the dynamics setup on the rope bridge too.)
Can't wait to check it out.

Hey guys and gals, I just wanted to say well done!
(Warning, Spoilers)
I'm currently working in Spain and I don't speak Spanish so I had to sit through the film without understanding a single sentence (only words here and there) yet I STILL laughed out loud on several occasions! I don't usually laugh out loud at films (I'm a part time comedian too).
Dr Seuss is practically unheard of over here and the film is considered for children. I think the lady selling me my ticket was asking if I had a child with me, but I couldn't understand her...
Anyway, the kids in the cinema were LITERALLY on their feet for most of the film! A few of them jumped back into their seats during the scene with the Kangaroo meeting the Vulture though, haha! One kids was shouting with anticipation during the bridge scene too, it was a great experience. During the town scene at the end, all of the children in the audience started clapping along with the town! Then, during the song sequence at the end, THE ADULTS started clapping along with the music and laughing... I didn't recognize the song at all so maybe they used a Spanish song or something. If that wasn't enough the whole cinema clapped, cheered and whistled at the end. It was pretty amazing to experience that!
The animation was amazing! The acting was brilliant even though I couldn't understand what the characters were saying. Now you know that Jim Carrey and Steve Carell don't carry this film, since it is so enjoyable even without them. I LOVED the visual gags throughout the film, especially the monkey firing the bannanas, brilliant! I'm definitely seeing this one again and again, if only I could find it in English!
Well great job Blue Sky! You've really made a great piece of entertainment with this one. I'm thinking of coming back to the US in July, I might have to dust off my reel and consider "settling down" at a big studio... Be warned! Is anyone from Blue Sky going to be at Annecy this year in June? I know Pixar will be there recruiting and showing off Wall-E, but I'd love to chat with some BSS people now too! Man, I'm watching the Horton trailer again right now...
